I have a friend that has a riding lawn tractor:
He put new blades on it and cleand out the bottom of the deck real good: and it still leaves
{2} narrow strips, I call them MOHAWKS.
What is his problem with the mower. I have check"d it out and even tryed it in my lawn and it still dose the same thing.
WOULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS :
MANY THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT DAY

I"m just guessing here,..but I think the deck isn"t level from side to side and front to back. If there is rollers on the deck they may be worn causing the deck to be unlevel. The deck itself may be bent. Last but least, the blades may be worn too far and sharpened too many times thus leaving the strips of grass. Loose belts can also be a problem.
So take your pick of any above. If the deck is clean of grass build up,..it should cut clean. However,..you must overlap a little to compensate for the tire tracks in the tall grass.

J R Most of the time this is caused by blades not overlapping enough. If the blade has worn shot by a quarter of inch, there will be a half inch strip or mohawk left. Sometimes can be that the generic blades are shorter than factory specs, can also be the blade chambers under deck are no longer straight. James

If you can, park the mower on a level cement floor and start measuring the distance from the deck to the floor all the way around. As has been suggested, a deck can get bent, one side may be lower than the other and ..there is a spring that needs to be in place that hooks on..usually the left rear to the deck, it keeps the deck level when you turn right otherwise you scalp the turn. I've had to play with mine several times, even had a slightly bent blade that caused ridges and scalping on turns. You will learn a lot when you park it on a cement floor.

JR.FRYE,
I had a craftsman, same thing one of the spindles was worn, bought new ones and it worked.
Seems when it was stopped they (the blades)looked even, rock them up and down from the tip, and you can see under stress they may not run true to each other.
Also make sure he has the right blades, the blades should almost touch.

Our shop had one,It was a Cub Cadet 3000 series when they first came out. three bladed and brand new did the same thing.
No one could figure out what was wrong. many trips back to shop later company bought a new deck--- no problems with that one.Mowed just fine.

(Dealer pulled one over on company) Come to find out later that that certain deck was recalled because middle blade needed a spacer to bring to level for correct vacuum. Company never dealt with them again... spacer washers are important too.

some mowers must have a lift blade to work correctly.. otherwise they will not "clean" correctly and leave a strip.

The wife and I doing great and I am back to work.
I was asked if I would like to work with young adults in need.
These are people that have a disability, some are mintal or phisical or other.
The job that they do will be any thing from A to Z
that is simple and safe.
This job to me is a very rewarding job in my eyes.
If I can teach one person to do somthing in one
day I feel I have done my job, and every day is
a new and different challenge to both client and my self.
Some one needs to help them a long the way.
I realy love my job,and my clients.

Will so much for that: hows evey one been?
and thanks for your in put on the mower cutting problem. Say hi to mom
Got ta go.

Three short blades seem to be the worst offender of this, probably don't have as good a lift as the longer blades. I have a cub cadet that was leaving a strip on the one side. When I had the deck off, upside down I found the blade tips were not on the same level, by removing washer from on and adding it to the other all three blades lined up . Then the leveling of the entire mower starts. Can't rely on the deck as they get bent so need to determine where the tips of the blades are. And blades need to be a little lower in front than back, like 1/4 in or so, that way you don't chew your cabbage twice as they say.

HEY you guys are the best:
MANY THANKS:: for your thoughts and Ideas:I will relay them to him.
I got ta go,I'll talk at ya later.

Blades have a taper cut on the end, not square with the cutting edge 1/4" longer. When they wear guess where all of the wear is at, on that point and that starts to shorten the blades and when you sharpen them it gets a mite shorter each time so they will not reach together and therefore leave that strip. Have had that problem for the last 20 years but the lawn is not that nice otherwise so I just live with it. If they would make the blades as long as they should they worry that the blades will get out of time and the tips hit each other.

Me too "lint head" wheel horse both blades the same length outside one is three piece that do the pushing to the bagger. I thought it was supposed to be on the inside.

Your deck mite be xprung and a spindle could be not square. Simple fix on a flat surface measure the distance from the blade to the surface at different positions. They should meet with blade to blade also even a bad bearing can throw the spindles from running parelell.
