2 5/16 Trailer Balls

This is a high lift ball for a gooseneck hitch, so you can mount a plate on the frame under the pick-up bed and cut a hole in the bed and let it stick up through the bed. I have installed dozens and dozens of them in the last 30 years.

I'd say yes. You may not need the full "high rise" ball, but at least a "mid rise". Gooseneck couplers are wider around the outside of the ball, so when things are off kilter sideways, or front to back, the coupler could rub on your mount plate.

I don't care where you get your 2 5/16 ball be sure to check rating on the top of ball. HF is selling some with a 5000 lb rating They are going to get someone killed.

Hello welding man. What size plate and thickness do you weld onto a truck frame for a hitch? Where do you locate in relation to the rear axle? Do you bolt it or weld it? I may be tempted to put one on my 1/2 ton f150. I know it couldn't pull a full load but an empty one or with a horse or two. Thanks.
