Allis started smoking

OK so I have a 1948 Allis that I bought this spring that has started blowing smoke when itis throttled up. When I bought it the owner said the head had been redone but not the rings sinde they looked good. Also the head gasket has started to seep oil like the head was not re-torqued after it was warmed up. I can re-torque this no problem or take it off and look at the sleeves. The smoke is bluish but it does not smoke at an idle or when it is up to speed, would this be rings, carb, head, any ideas thanks

Helps if we know what Allis you have. They made at least 5 models that year.
As far as the smoke it could be nothing to worry about or it could be signs that when the head was rebuild it did what happens a lot and is blowing to old rings out the bottom so to speak. Could also be a carb that needs to be tweaked a tad. Or it could be carbon fouling and that will cause problems. What do the plugs look like that should tell you what is up if you know how to read plugs that is

If it"s blue and you get a lot when under heavy load conditions, the rings have lost oil control and are most likely worn. if the blue smoke occurs at idle and low power, it"s most likey intake valve seals and/or worn valve guides.

If it just started doing it then it could well be carbon and that will cause rings to stick but till you look at the plugs you can not be sure. One thing that will not hurt but might help would be to run a little ATF in the oil and in the gas to see if that will clean up and loosen things up. About a hald qt. in the oil and the other half in 2.5 gal. of gas

Bad guides will smoke on start up and quit. They could cause it to smoke some when revving it up also but would still smoke on start up. Valve seals are not used on that engine head. I wouldn't think the rings were all that bad if it only smokes when bringing the rpm's up and then quits. You might have some gummy rings. I would use a can of Seafoam before taking anything apart. 1/2 can in crankcase and the other half in the gas.
