Jackson power steering?

The manual steering on my IH 300 u is worn our and won't steer at all. The search is on for a salvaged steering box. However, that is another 50 year old part. Looking into the Jackson powere steering kit for the tractor. Any comments or reviews about this set up? New vs. old. Power vs. no power. I am definetly leaning towards it.

But it does replace the roller ball set up on the steering shaft? Mine has worn the knob off of the lead sector shaft. The shafts are fine except for that.

Not sure and could bewrong (wouldn"t be the first time) but isn"t that the company that converts the steering to orbital power steering like on tractors begining with 4010, 806, and all combines after about 1965? With this setup there is a hyd. cyl. on the steering axel and a pair of hoses going to the steering wheel. All the mechincal linkages including gear boxes are removed. If it works on the newer equipment it should be able to be retrofitted to older equipment. My son and I took these parts from anolder John Deere combine and mounted on a cub cadet that he made a loader and backhoe to attatch to the cub cadet. Works great! Armand

Done it on a derby car, so should be able to do it on a tractor. Took steering components off of a old combine and adapted to the car.

No real advantage to doing it in the car case, other than the steering shaft wouldn't be a weak link in the case of a frame bend.

Old neighbor converted a old Farmall H to wide front.. Used a combine rear end, and I know that too had a hydraulic cylinder on it.. not too positive on how they set that up, but almost positive the steering shaft still ran all the way up to the front.

You still need something to tie the two front wheels together....with no steering box, there wouldn't be anything to do that.

Forgot about that but should be an easy fix. You would need a full length tie rod and maybe a few other parts from the combine steering axel. If you are getting an after market kit all parts should be included (with instructions) for your make and model tractor. Use it and enjoy!!! Armand
