We have a 'ricer', where you put the cooked potatoes in, skin and all. You then insert the plunger, press hard, and out comes riced potatoes. We think garden fresh potatoes are best this way! Greg

New potatos & fresh green beans cooked with smoked ham hock from hog we butchered last month is what we had for supper tonight. Along with cucumbers out of the garden. We have zuccini for tomorrow. Corn isn't quite ready yet. Keith

Yukon Golds are good anyway they're fixed. I like them mashed with butter to bring out the yellow flesh. I grew up on meat and potatoes. A meal is not complete without potatoes. I also like new potatoes with yellow beans. Cook the beans, drain and pour milk over them. Add a couple tablespoons of butter and heat until butter melts. Spoon over fork-mashed boiled spuds. Good eatin'.

Shred them with the old tin plate shredder, Squeeze the juice out of them. and make hash browns.

Bake them, then doused them in butter and sour cream. We microwave them. Thet're good with fresh green beans from the garden, we had some tonight. Still bone dry here in MD. I have a soaker hose in with the beans. I ran a water line to the garden about 15 years ago. I can start and stop the soaking from my basement with a quarter turn shutoff valve. I've been running it for about an hour each day. Hal

Hash browns sound very good, but we also like to slice them and fry them into french fries and douse them with lots of Old Bay seasoning and some ketchup. When we first start digging up the taters, the kids like to eat french fries for about 3 weeks each summer until they no longer have a taste for them...

Old Bay is a blend of seasonings and salt which I first ran into when I lived in Maryland. Very good on lots of stuff, especially crabs, chicken and fried potatoes. When we lived in Minnesota, we couldn't find it at all, but here in southern MO there is a store which carries 6 oz tins of it. It is made by McCormick & Co and the website on the can is www.old-bay.com. The ingredients listed are:

celery salt, spices (including mustard, red pepper, black pepper, bay (laurel) leaves, cloves, allspice(pimento), ginger, mace, cardamom, cinnamon) and paprika.

Just have to look around for it, but it really does taste good.

Armand,

Do yourself a favor and do not look
too hard for the old bay,it basically
ruins the taste of anything that you put
it on .
Here in md it is used to steam crabs and
shrimp. When they have a crab feast, most
of the patrons are drinkers and or smokers
and have their taste buds burned out. The
crab steamers put enough old bay in the pot
that it looks like someone threw sand in
the pot. The old bay makes the crab eaters
want a large quantity of drink ,so by the
time they are done picking the crabs they
are about drunk .I stay away from the feeds.

I have seen it in large cans pound or
better. If you decide you can't live
without it ,holler and I'll get you some.

Try this web site for Old Bay. It's good on crab cakes too. Hal
