MF 231 brakes

The brakes on my MF aren't so great. I installed new shoes a few years back. The ones I removed still had a lot of material. I know if I check them they will be very glazed. The last time I checked them they were glazed shinny. I roughed them up with sand paper, and they worked good until now. Any thoughts on how to keep them working? Possibly a different lining material? Stan

Such is life... The biggest thing I've found drum brakes good for is consuming money.
I'd say... pull the drums and sand em again.
