OT: Bale monitor education

Went out today to bale, with a new to me 554XL Vermeer with Accu Bale. I have never run a baler with a monitor, trying to sort out some questions. The bale shape indicators don't seem to be functionig, one side reads nearly half full while empty and the other remains at empty. Also, the bale size indicator never returns to empty, it starts out in the 20's and reads overfill at 45/50. Is this simply sensors that need repalced or does the monitor need calibrated. I know there are a lot of variables involved, looking for positive information to put me on the right path in the morning. Thanks fellas- Erik
 
Those indicators only tell you the pressure on the belts not how full they are. Our Deere starts out at 20 inches roughly, that is when it starts reading. If your overfill is at 45-50 inches, that needs to be adjusted up, depending on how big of a bale your baler can make. Mine goes up to 72 since I can make a 72 inch bale. Hope this helps
 
I am not much of a help on Vermeer but your problem sound like what a JD baler monitor would do if it was not calibrated to the baler.
If the belts are not the correct length it will cause the monitor to be wrong as well. The sensor should be able to be adjusted. Need to look close at your Owners manual. I bet it tells you how to set the monitor.
 
Hey Erik, I'm not one to preach cause I am guilty of every misgiving ever known to man, but, if you have an operator's manual, I think it would answer most, if not all of your questions. I also suspect that since the baler is new to you, acquiring a manual has not yet been possible.
On JD balers, you can set those shape/fill monitors by adjusting the arms that cause the monitor to function, which are located on the back of the baler, one on each outside bale belt.
There may not be anything wrong with your monitor. Good luck tomorrow.
 
Thanks for the replies fellas. Yes, I do have operators manuals for the baler, and monitor as well as maintanence manuals. My questions came from what I was able to figure out in the books. Going to make a few adjustments and see how things go today. - Erik

Are you sure one can adjust the arms that ride against the belts? If needed I adjust the sensors following the operators manual instructions.
