What a mess

I got to a mowing job today, and the tractor was covered with diesel, and dripping off of everything. To my surprise I forgot to put the cap back on the tank, when I filled the tank this morning. At least I found the cap in the trailer bed. I'll bet I am not the first to do that. I missed the freeway on ramp, which is probably good, or I would have gave a few cars a shower. To make things just a little worse I had a flat tire, This time I had a spare. Tomorrow should be better. Stan

I rarely leave the farm with a tractor, but I am real bad about forgetting the cap. I donno why, but it's one of those mental block things we all have - this is one of mine.

Not so much on the tractor.. but just about every night I have to top off the transfer tank on my company truck.. and probably 3 times a week I forget to put the cap back on.. But I'm workin on being better about it

A couple of years ago I went on a mining job on Prince of Wales Island Off the coast of southern Alaska. I was a working supervisor which ment I got paid more and had to do the paper work. One of our pieces of equipment was a front end loader. For the life of me I could not remember to put the cap on the diesel tank. I usually ran over it because I set it on the fender to fuel. I finally got told by the superintendent that I was going to pay for the cap next time I ran over one. I did but didn't have to pay for it.

My wife siphoned some gas out of my backhoe for her riding mower a couple weeks ago and forgot to put the cap back on . It was about a week before I found it and had about 4 in. of rain that week but what the hay she can siphon her own gas and keeps the yard mowed .

I filled my Husqvarna chainsaw a couple weeks ago with gas and bar oil. (you lay it on its side to do this) then proceeded to pick it up and carry it across the shop without the oil cap on. Have a nice perm stain on my jeans now.

I used to drive my Dad's 72 chevy truck to town on friday nights. I forgot to put the cap back on every time I got gas in that truck. Oh you talk about mad, he blew a gasket every time I brought it home without a cap. I was a 16 year old kid though, did not know better and did not care. I don't know how he put up with me.

We broke ourselves of that by putting the gas cap on the seat as soon as we took it off the tank--sat on a lot of them. Lary

Mechanic the next county over at the county road dept. dropped the oil in a Cat grader one Friday afternoon. Must have gotten distracted and didn"t finish the service job. Monday morning, grader operator gets in grader, starts her up without checking the oil. You guessed it, grader gets a new engine.

Soak the spot with Chlorox 2 liquid work it in good with your fingers. Let it sit for about 24 hrs then wash in hot water. I've been very successful taking oil stains out by doing this.

Can't say I've had that trouble yet, but now as I type this it'll probably happen on the next tractor I fill....
