8n starter replacement

Hey gang! I have a Ford 8n tractor and I'm trying to replace the starter. I've removed the solenoid and removed the 2 mounting bolts but the starter wont come out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

As I remember they can be a challenge. try searching the ford board for the answer as I believe it has been covered before.

First of all, put a 5/16" NC nut on one of the starter bolts so the starter doesn't come apart in 3 pieces.

It DOES come out, it may take some wiggling and jiggling and the removal of the oil filter cannister and the block drain for clearance.

It's common for guys to then attack the hole in the block with a die grinder, elongating it up and to the left to make putting it back in (and removing it next time) easier.
