wc govener timing

I'm guessing you need to know how. I think if you take the front cover off of the gov you can see the camshaft to find the timing marks. Should be 4 small bolts. Might need a mirror to see around the rad.

I take it you have never worked on a wc or wd. There are no timing marks on cam for the governor.
Heres how you do it. Get TDC on compression stroke of #1 cylinder. Know align the gov so the roter is pointing at the tab inside the mag. Carefuly install. Sounds easy doesnt it. Should be the same with a distubitor. This is how the manual says how to do it. It took me 6 or 7 hrs to get mine right.

In fact, I've built 4 of them. Have 2 governors sitting on my bench now. One has a mark, one does not. My WD manual says to do it the way you described. My point is, if somone in the last 50 or 60 years was kind enough to stamp a set of marks, removing the governor cover might allow one to see the marks.

There are marks on the crankshaft, camshaft, and timing gear that need to be set right- I&T AC-!! has the details for the 201 engine.
