OT Speed limits

Lately I have been noticing speed limits.when i drive the speed limit, everybody passes me.When did they change to mean MINIMUM speed? );^)

That's what we are teaching our children, that it's ok to break laws! It's ridiculous when the speed limit is 55 and everyone is driving 70, if people would slow down a little we wouldn't need so much foreign oil.

todays youngsters have no limits, thats the problem, now if you drive old pickups, the speed limit is automatic, the ol girl just wont go any faster, dont worry about 70, 60 has both feet flat on the floor and the pistons swapin holes

It's even worse than that when you remember that the speed limit is just that - the upper *limit*. That's the fastest you're supposed to go under ideal conditions. But it's considered by most everyone to be the minimum as well as the maximum.

But I can't blame it on today's kids - I drove waaaay too fast when I was a kid - and that was quite a while ago...

In case you haven't noticed, speed lim,its hsave been increasing. It's now 70mph for cars on the Indiana turnpike and the last time I was in Michigan the Interstate posted limit was 75 and everyone was driving 80. My wife and I were driving up I-75 toward the UP on a Friday afternoon. The traffic was heavy but showing a steady 80 mph on the GPS. Accurate to 1/10 mph steady state. Made me a little nervous for a while because I was stuck behind a guy who was pulling a twelve foot boat on a trailer that had what looked to be 6" diameter tires on it. The rpm of those wheels must have been up around 100k. Michigan State Police sitting beside the road watching the traffic go by. Montana is another story altogether. Personally, I like it a lot better than trying to drive 55mph which was totally ridiculous.

Unless something has changed very recently, the limit in Michigan is still 70, not 75. But people drive 80+ all the time.

It has always been that way. If the limit is 70 people drive 75-80 if the limit was 55 people would go 60-65 has been that way ever since I started driving 40 or so year ago. Same as people trying to pass going up a hill or on a curve or on the double yellow lines it is just people and them not thinking about other just thinking they need to get some place faster

I believe Montana was once "Reasonable and Prudent", not sure if it still is. But they DO pull people over if they are being stupid.

Delta, Old is right, it's always been that way. I've been out there 41 years and it's the same now is it was when I started driving. The thing is this, the older we get the more we notice it. I also think we notice it more now because there is a lot more traffic now. I've seen it from the view not only driving my car or pick up but from a truck drivers view and I hate to say it, but we can't blame this one on the younger generation. Got to be honest here guys and gals, one of the ones that scare me the most is the retiree's that have bought there dream camper and truck, then off they go 70-75-80-85, oh well that's another story. LOL

Nope, sadly, Montana dropped "reasonable and prudent" some years ago, and are now 70 or 75 on the Interstates. Remember on a nice day, little traffic during the "r & p" days, I was cruising at about 85 on I-90, didn't see a trooper coming up behind me, so couldn't slow down. He just nodded at me as he passed.

Everybody that drives slower that me is an idiot!

Everybody that drives faster than me is a maniac!

LOL

When I go on a trip I drive 60 on the interstate. if the other drivers don't like it they can pass on the left. When pulling a camper that is the max speed the tires are rated at.

Where have you been? Brad Keselowski (NASCAR driver) did an interview on speed channel two weeks ago and he said that he was doing 90 mph. Going down the freeway and got passed by 5 cars, that"s how he knew he was back in his home state of Michigan.

It is not only kids with the lead foot. When I go to work at 5:30 am, if you are not going at least 20 mph over the speed limit you are going to get passed. When the speed limit changes from 35 to 55 mph (4 lane highway) it is like the green flag start at Daytona.

What keeps me slowed down is a combination of high fuel prices and that milage indicator thingy in the dash. My diesel pickup gets 20-22 mpg if I keep it under 60, but drops to about 15 at 70-75. For the difference in price, they can all pass me.
