OT: Adjusting Well Pump Kick-out

I want to turn down the kick-out setting on my Gould well pump a bit. The pump sits on top of the pressure tank. I am almost certain the adjusting screw is the one on top of the large spring - which way do I turn it to bring down the point that the pump shuts off?

Thanks,
Tim

Yes, backing off the adjustment nut on top of the spring will lower the pump cut out pressure.

Problem is that it will also lower the pump kick in pressure, so if yours is a bladder type pressure tank, you need to set the empty tank bladder air pressure at 2 psi below pump kick in pressure.

adjusting the big screw adjusts both in and out at the same time. There is also a smaller, shorter screw that will adjust just one of the two, the instructions under the cover of the switch will tell which it adjusts.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I'll get my neighbor to give me a hand - he's a pump guy and this sounds a bit more complicated than I want to try myself.

Tightening the small nut increases the range/span/dead band. Less pump cycling.
Large nut raises or lowers both the start and stop pressures together.
The old one was still working here but it looked tired. Replaced with the switch equipped with the "very low" pressure shut off. In case a pipe etc bursts. The pump shuts down.
As others have asked. Is the tank waterlogged, has the bladder ruptured or wrong bladder pressure?

The pump is just old and tired. It seems to struggle to reach 48 psi which is where the kick out is set. One of the toilets doesn't always stop running, and sometimes the pump runs a long time if I don't catch it.

I thought I would back it down just a few pounds to make things easier on the pump. Heck - I want it to to last another 25 yrs.

Might be time to splurge on one of those toilet valve kits?
The parts have to be cheaper than the extra electricity, wear on the pump and water logging the septic system.
