Differential Lock on Newer Tractors

I was just wondering if the newer tractors were like the older ones to where if you have diff. lock on and turn around it will bust up stuff in the differential? my 98 NH 8260 has the push button diff lock, i had it on the other evening, forgot it was on, turned at the end of the field and didn"t hear parts flying but wasn"t sure if the newer stuff is made to where you can turn. even the owners manual says turning can be difficult but doesn"t say "don"t do it"

Why would you want to turn with both rear wheels locked? It puts undue stress and wear on diff. & tires plus frt tires will tend to slide. My JD 4255 unlocks diff lock as soon as either brake pedal is touched. My Kubota M4900 diff lock unlocks as soon as pull on rear tires equalizes.

On my 1720 Ford it is temporary once engaged. Unless you hold down the heel level it will disengage once traction is regained so would probably be unlocked during a turn.

Wouldn't worry about it, the tractor either won't turn as quick as the inside tire now has to break traction by sliding, or it won't turn at all such as a hard pull on good footing. Doing it once or twice isn't going to break it, but I wouldn't have the lock on needlessly...

I'm surprised it would steer...
Doubt you'll hurt it anyhow. I think that tractor has a diff lock disengage when steering angle reaches a certain point though I'm not positive about that.

Just touching the inside brake will disconnect dif lock on tractors I am familiar with that do not have the hold it down to stay engaged switch.

My massey has a 3 position switch, off-on-auto.

On locks the front and rear diffs.

Auto locks when the 3 point hitch is lowered and unlocks when its raised to help making headland turns.

You can leave it on as much as you want except on pavement. Good way to break an axleshaft if you do.
