How to keep birds from perching on rafters

Looking for ideas to keep birds from perching on rafters in my barn. I am trying to keep my truck and tractors clean. Thanks,

I save the free cds and dvds that I get in the mail and then hang them either above the door entering the shed or above the pearching area in the shed. If you can't wait to save any free cds go to your local office supply chain store and purchase the cheapest ones they have.

That is a hard thing to do because you have so many rafters. If it's sparrows I've been told an owl with glass eyes and sometimes 2 or 3 will keep them out of a shed.If you want to kill the birds and they are only on 1 or 2 rafters an electrice wire ground and positive side by side that there toes will touch both at the same time works verry well.

A cheap way to do it is to fasten clear fishing line to the bottom of your rafters about 4 feet apart. If that slows them down but does not stop them put in a line between the 4 foot on center line. On this commerical building that I work in the birds were flying in through the windows. We strung clear fishing line zig zag above the windows about 10 feet apart and that stopped them. Another guy strung clear fishing line above his pool to keep birds away and it worked. There is not much around a pool to string line to but what he strung kept the birds away.

time consuming and hard to do after the tin is on but i saw a guy build a new barn and cut pieces of 2x4 to fill the void above the rafters and under the tin. think he called it bird boards. You could buy that expanding foam and shoot it on top of your rafters to fill that void. take everythikng out of barn first and dont get that garbage on your hands unless you wanna wear it a while.

I second that. It is being used on all surfaces in our railway stations that birds might use as a perch.

product called BIRD REPELLENT made by the J.T. EATON company in Twinsburgh, ohio. has the consistency of jelly, is very sticky & stays that way. comes in a tube & is applied with a caulking gun. can't remember where i got it at. is very good product. have used it to keep birds off of play sets, birds do not like this product.

that may work on the wind beams but i read it as the rafters, which is between the tin and top of the rafter...like 1 inch or whatever thickness of the lathes. maybe he will clarify...

n a similar note, pull the tape out of an old vhs cartridge, and staple strips of it up at the top of windows, doors, etc, leaving it hanging down as streamers. need to double it over 2 or 3 times where you staple, since it is so thin, but slightest breeze moves it and the reflective surface keeps birds out.
