First crop is done

Just finished chopping our first crop on the ground just to get it off. Been rained on for 3 weeks almost every day or atleast every other day. What really sucked was having to go in the new seeding which was very soft, but had to get it off to prevent it from completely killing the alfalfa underneath.

Second crop does look good though, it's already about a foot tall in places and we'll probaly cut in 2 weeks. Also had to change a tire on the front of the tractor, and the blower band blew out on the chopper in the last field. Hopefully the place I know had a used one on a chopper a few years ago still has it. Or atleast another one in good shape.

Another good thing, the rain went South of us and we've actually gotten less than .25" in the last couple days. Sund the next 2 atleast so maybe I can get into our corn ground and scratch it up some so we may be able to plant eventually....

I am located in sw wisconsin. We finished 1st crop around May 20. Probably going to start cutting on Monday. We had 2 good weeks to do first crop and it tested great and the cows milk awesome on it. Hope you have better luck on 2nd crop. What kind of chopper do you have?

I have 100 acres to cut yet of first. Forecast is calling for rain all next week. Oh well I guess the cows are going to get to eat some stemmy hay this winter if the weather ever turns. No use cutting it if I have no chance of baling it. Looking back at my calendars for 20 years or so and the latest I ever baled first crop was July 5, gonna break that record this year I'am afraid. Talked to a friend today that does custom chopping. He's way behind, has a bunch of oats to chop yet and guys are getting nervous on the second crop that should start Monday. He can't run trucks in the fields and tractors pulling wagons are even leaving ruts. I kinda hinted maybe I should have him chop some of mine and he said don't even ask.

I sure thought it was going to be a good year! Early spring, I planted some then made some hay, and went and no-tilled on the ground that I made hay. I quess I should have kept making hay and got that done, then plant the rest of the corn! Well you got to do what you got to do! Hope things go good for you for the rest of the year!

I ve got 12 a. of wet winrows to run the tedder over this afternoon , rain got here about 24 hours before they said it would . That s just the 2nd hay I have mowed this yr. S.E. IN.

That chopper is a Fox 3000 IIRC. Retired farmer down the road from me has 2. Drop me a line if you want his phone #.
