Got some wind in my hair today.

Been a hot 90ish degrees and very humid here today, great day to try to finish up setting tobacco. I had planned to take the fertilize out from under plants first of last week but my wife went into labor 10 days early and I forgot all about them. By the time I thought about them it was too late and the weed eater was not go'n to help much but I had to try. We set a half an acre with my plants with two folks walking behind and two row setter watching for hang ups and fix'n the ones that did not go in deep enough to stand up. Called a neighbor who had a sign out last week say'n he had plants for sale and he had just enough to finish us up. When we went to the smaller plants I got the ford 960 up to 1200rpm in first gear. After spending 3 hours going at 650rpm and have'n to stop every 50 to help pull plants out of the shoe I thought the wind from go'n so fast was going to take my hat off. Got done setting tobacco for the year, hope'n to put a big dent in bean planting tomarrow.

Doesn't it bother you to know that you are planting cancer plants???? Is chasing the almighty buck worth it....just askin

Growing tobacco is much better than making beer and wine. If I smoke too much I might be killing myself but if you drink too much you can kill a whole bunch of people.
Eldon(WA) go hug a few trees and stay in Washington state.

Congrats on the little one! Boy or girl? Funny how those little ones can make you forget everything, they are more important anyway! Hope all went well, maybe a few pics, I have a 2 year old boy and an 11 month old daughter!

Not really, I am just a jerk all the way around. I also raise beef cattle. I read in the paper last week where a 500lb man had a heart attack and fell face first into his hamburger. I also sell corn that is made into corn syrup. I laugh when I see a little fat kid waddle'n down the side walk drink'n a mountain dew.

So no I really don't think of them as cancer plants, I just see them as the only crop I can grow on four acres and make the whole farm payment with.

Have a nice day.

Lit'l girl. She will be two weeks old Monday and she is already running the show around here.

Thank you much.

Both of those depend on the end user. A glass of beer or wine are perfectly fine for you. If people were smart enough to not start smoking, there would be no market for tobacco, and Plowboy would have to find another high dollar crop. BTW, careless smokers have killed others too. It's just how you put it all into context. I personally won't use any tobacco product, but if a guy grows it, that's his choice. Supply and demand.

You tell um dave. If they want to come on down with a BIG load of cash they can stop the growing but untill then just keep making a living and stay off welfare..No goverment handouts.. just started wheat when I was in the HOUSE at non temp was showing 100 deg in the shade..Dont mind the combine but know baling that straw comes next. Wont,t be easy in this heat wave we are having. jm. 100 mi south of you

Good for you on the baby girl and the tobacco setting, I got done setting May 30, son's house flooded in May and wile fooling with the house and trying to bale hoy in the rain, well you know the rest. WEEDS! Oh well life on the farm.

I raise dark tobacco that I take to the Skoal/Copenhagen factory. If a person get's sick from second hand chaw baccer they didn't have much go'n for them before the cancer set in.

I hear ya. The last few years I have had really good luck go'n over the top with command after setting. This year I started setting on Friday, it rained on Saturday and the wife went into labor on Sunday. Keep'n my fingers crossed that I don't have morn'n glories take over. Only thing to come up so far has been crabgrass and Post will take that out of the picture with the first round of Orthene.

Good luck to you!!

Dave

No one up here has started wheat that I have seen but with the weather they are give'n for the next week it won't be long. Ain't noth'n fun about any kind of hay, straw, or tobacco work in this heat. I did notice it was much better today here with out as much humidity. I finished up getting bean ground ready to plant today and it didn't seem to be as bad today.

Take care and good luck with the wheat.
