Jd 2950 hydraulics

I was baling hay today with my JD 2950 and JD 530 baler. I noticed the hybdraulics have been slow, but today the gate would not open to eject the bale. I changed the hydraulic filter, but still it would not work. My front end loader also did not work. I did have power steering and I could change from high range to low range in selected gears. Is there something I am missing?

Did you check sump screen? Could be a faulty stroke control valve or high pressure internal leak or just low stand-by pressure or stuck pressure control valve. What kind of loader control(ind valve or rear remotes)? I'd check stand-by pressure with a gauge.

Yes... start checking the stand-by, then clean the suction screen in the base of the rear axle. It does rather sound like a stroke control problem tho...
Do you have quick, light steering or just kinda slow, sluggish steering? Keep in mind that the steering and brakes will work without hydraulic pressure... but the steering will be heavy and slow.
Hi-Lo is on the low pressure (charge) circuit so the fact that it works normally suggests that you have normal(ish) charge pressure and flow.

Same basic idea. Hi-Lo is just a wet clutch engaged 2 speed planetary powershift. When they get to this generation mentioned they use a bellville spring to engage the low side so you always have low even if you lose hydraulic pressure.
The main difference between the Ford and Deere systems and some others is that they were always a direct and underdrive setup without an over running clutch... they also never acquired the same reputation for failures that IH had, for whatever reason.
