Tractor A/C Issues

Air conditioner quit cooling. It has plenty of refrigerant and the compressor clutch is engaging and working OK. What do I start checking now?

How do you know that it has enough freon??? If you don't have gauges on the high and low side there is no way to tell if it has enough freon.
ALSO WHAT MODEL OF TRACTOR!!!! The different brands use different systems.

ck filters and and blow out condenser in cab
see if that is cold. heater valves is usually the problem or mice have built a nest.

Not sure about other brands but when our 6210 or 300 JDs have that problem the first thing we check are the screens in front of the radiator. usually they are stopped up and not letting enough air in to cool the condenser. Blow them out and most of the time the AC will work again.

I worked on a farmer friend of mine's JD and pressures were good according to ambient temp. I found plugged filters at the top of the cab on both sides. Cleaned them out and it cooled fine. If it's low on freon use tracer dye in the freon can. At this point it could be many things.

My White 2-135 quit working last year. I could hook a jumper wire to the compressor and it would work, but the wire would melt pretty quick. I tracked the trouble down to the low pressure switch. I made a jumper wire to bypass it and it works fine now. The older ones didn't have a low pressure switch anyway,so I didn't have anything to loose.

And the old ones ate compressors on a regular basis.

Think I'd be fer dropping the $12 for another pressure switch.

I don't mean this badly but again as a one time dealer it's like doing surgery over the telephone. There are too many details left out for the good folks on here to help out not me of course but some reefer guys on here can help.Refergeration is all about air movement like the condensor coil in front of the radiator and an unblocked cab filter for the evaporator and a good working cab fan especially in the ac mode. After all that is checked then it is time for pressure gauge readings for mainly low and high side pressure readings. Because your pump is running only means you have enough freon to satisfy the low pressure cutout but maybe not enough to do the job.

If your fan is blowing air through there out of the airoutlets into the cab at a normal full rate that should tell you that the system is not froen up with isce on the condenser right by the fan. It should mean thatit has lost most of its coolant and needs some added to see if that will help. You say the compressor is enhahing so that means the low pressure cutout is not being activated yet so if you put some R 134 in it you should see some improvement . It is important to have a good airflow tho but if you add a couple cans of R134 and it does not cool it means you need a tech with the machine to diagnose the problem for your to find the right fix. If you have not added any refridgerant in a few months , that could be the problem. You might have a slow leak like a tire does some time. Devious

Good air flow in cab, just hot air. Line from compressor is not cooling at all but clutch is engaging with control movement in cab. It's a 9170 steiger tractor. Had added a can of freon back in april when cooling wasn't great. Had worked great for years before that and fine since then until last friday when it quit cooling all together. Added two cans at that time and my cheapo fill kit showed good pressure so I quit. Never did start cooling. Didn't want to overcharge/overpressurize and cause damage so thats where I am now.
