Scrap or Treasure?

I was walking around my old iron the other day debating on what to scrap. Parts tractors, steel wheeled rakes, single gang disks... My list kept getting longer. I have seen lots of stuff heading for the recycling guys that doesn't look like its been "parted" much. Kinda sad knowing it will be gone forever. I wonder if YT would put another section in classifieds for "Before I Scrap It"?

I don't like to scrap anything. After everybody else does,I'm the only source left for some of this stuff. Proved that a couple of months ago with some packer wheels. A year ago, there was a steel wheeled hay rake on a local consignment sale. I had one just like it down back. I watched the one on the auction sell, then went up to the backup bidder and told him I had one just like it that I'd sell for his last bid. He came and got it. This stuff looks a whole lot different when it's out on a place where the grass has been cut. Haul it out on the lawn in season and hang a for sale sign on it if you don't want it. You'll be amazed how fast some of it'll go.

Steel wheel hay rakes if they are any good are worth money. New Idea worth the most then McCormick Deering and John Deere about equal and then Case, others less because of parts supply. Last year I moved at least 5 steel wheel rakes to go back into the field after I rebuilt them. Several to go this year and looking for more that I can rebuild and make a proffit on.

I agree with you guys and am going through the same thing right now. My old man passed away over the winter and the farm land has been rented for about 10 years now. Most of the equipment hasn't been used for a few years and it won't get used sitting around the farm. I hate to scrap it, but I don't want it sitting around for another couple of years waiting to find a buyer.

I got 2 of those rakes. Don't know what brand they are. I used one about 15 years ago. I will try to drag them out and get pics of them. Curious what kinda shape the wheels are in.
