OT: sudden death

A friend of mine had his brother in-law die Friday AM. The guy that died was a monk that lived in a convent in Illinois. He was 46, in great shape and he died while jogging. He died from a massive heart attack and was dead before his body hit the ground. You just never know when your number is gonna be called.

Tell me about it. Not a good time to live in my neighborhood. Been just about a month now,a neighbor just to the west,my age had a massive stroke. His wife and I went to school together, her folks live just to the north of me,family friends and all that. He's still hanging on,but that's what took my dad,so he's not gonna have much quality of life for whatever's left of it. Just a few days later,I found out the neighbor to the east,my age too, went to school with me and the other neighbors wife, has cancer. He just retired and didn't even have time to clean out his desk and found out he had it.
Monday night,my mother asked if I'd heard about a neighbor right to the north. Said she'd heard he'd had a heart attack and that it wasn't good. Didn't give it much more thought til his funeral notice was in Wednesdays paper. His daughter and mine were good friends and his son was one of my oldest sons best friends when they were growing up.

Sad to hear that a good person has passed away.

A regular physical that includes blood sugar, cholesterol, and colon cancer screening tests is how you know if you're in good shape. Jogging damages your knees and back.

"And not another minute, will all your money buy". I FIRMLY believe that your start AND finish is written in God's book, and there's NOT A THING you can do to change that......that said........given that God gave us choices....I DO believe we CAN change the QUALITY of our life, BUT NOT the QUANTITY.

Your heart is only good for so many beats. Jogging raises your heart rate. You want to make it last longer, take a nap.

lady i worked for during high scholl on her and her husbands farm died in a car accident thursday afternoon her husband died a couple years ago from cancer didnt even know he had any way her accident was a freak thing wandered into left lane then she overcorrected and lost it funny thing is she went between a big sign and a utility pole just wide enough to get car through slammed into an 1800's church right through the REAL concrete blocks into the basement the big solid blocks you older guys know what i mean how often is it that a church is involved in a death? worse part is she was turning her life around after her husband died they were always grungy people never showered and smelled real bad but good hearted just the same she was way overweight like 400 pounds or so but she was slimming down cleaning up wearing make up and jewelry trying to make her life right when this freak thing happens makes you wonder why bother why go for the check ups and such at doctors when its time its time

Back in the '70's, was a fella that got well known for running and winning marathons, Jim Fixx. Real good shape he was in until someone found him lying along a road somewhere in the early '80's, dead of a heart attack while out running. A decade or so ago during a marathon in Detroit, three runners died of heart attacks in the same marathon. I'm no marathon runner and far from it, but I'd better start watching it or I'm not going to last as long as even one of them.

My condolences.

Mark

There is no such thing as the devine life navigator. You have the choice to diviate right or left from the GPS hiway.(Gods Prescribed Senario). When it says turn right and then you see a big yellow sign that says Dead end! do you proceed or turn around? Life is about practical choices. You will be present in this world as long as you make the wright choices, I don't have any strings attachrd to my hands, legs or brain or feet, Do you?? If I die from having this additude you will never hear me complain.

2 1/2 Years ago one of the guys I worked with was sitting across the table from me eating his lunch. He said 'I can't breath!' I asked if he was choking, but before I could get the words out, he fell backwards. All the CPR myself and another guy could muster, we couldn't save him. Took 25 minutes for an EMS unit to get from their base to us from 3 miles away. His was a massive coronary. We now have an AED in the plant and several of us got our certifications to use it. I still tell the guys that if anything happens to me, load me in the back of a truck and drive like he**!

Don't forget PSA. I had elevated PSA 2 years ago,Doctor said we will check again in 6mo. I went to a Urologist a few days later. I wasn't content with wating 6mo. He did a biopsy, I had prostate cancer. I had ratical surgery, it's tough but had a PSA test last week results 0.0. I have 3 friends that waited, one just died the other 2 had radiation because it was too late for surgery. They have big problems. I am glad that I toook it seriously.

No matter what, when God calls I'll go. Don't say I'll be ready, but I'll go. Friends here will have to keep on without me.

My best friend since 7th grade died a year ago, then his Mother died last week, My aunt died 2 months ago.. I am really getting tired of funerals.. It gets depressing..

That's pretty sad about your brother. I knew a guy who was in great health who collapsed after an MX race. He was talking to some guys in the pits and all of a sudden collapsed. They had the ambulance, that was right there take, rush him to the hospital. He died of an enlarged heart. I wasn't there but was shocked when I heard about it. He was only 23 years old. Dave

Just make sure that you KNOW CHRIST as your personal saver, and you have a walk with him daily. When he gets ready to call you home, you be ready. What a wonderful time it is gonig to be. Sorry for any miss spelled words. Didn't do good in school. To busy with other things.(football, basketball, grils).

Two of my Army buddies both runners died about 10 years ago a few months apart. We had a reunion a year before they died. One said he could run 50 miles. Both were heavy smokers. Hal

As a fellow Marine put it, "I came into this world screaming and covered with blood, and I have no problem with going out the same way".

Sorry to hear of your loss of your buddies.
Smoking does NOT harm us, just ask anyone that is still smoking and justifying it after ALL of the scientific and health information that has come out in the past 30 or so years.

Sorry to hear also.

I remember his (Jim FIxx) post mortem. He had 80-90% coronary blockage in all 3 arteries, due to his belief that you can "run" through a high fat diet, which he had. It was common thinking at the time.

Eating right is better than any exercise.
