Germany is about half the size of TX give or take some. If a German takes a hundred plus mile trip, they pack a lunch and make a couple stops on the way and usually don't do it on a whim.
American family in a community about 220 miles away called about the puppies this morning and asked if they could "swing by". 5 hrs later they took a puppy home. Really no moral to that story, just thought I'd pass it on. Just like having a fish bowl or an aquarium...........

Dave, i know what you mean, i grew up in the UK and moved to the Canadian Prairies 10 years ago... i remember when a 2 hour car drive was a long journey, now i do that for supper some days! And think nothing of driving 12 hours to look at a piece of farm machinery... funny old world... but you should see my family back "home" when i suggest we go somewhere for the day, when they say, "that"s a long way", my usual reply is , it"s only a few hours drive, we"ll be there by lunch time...

Wait till gasoline prices hit 5 Bucks a gal..
We poor folks will think the 5 miles to town will be a big trip.
