And this time it's giving me big time fits, so I'm venting to you big time too. This back problem been ongoing off-and-on for 43 years but the older I get the worse it is. When I was younger I could sleep it off and go agoin the next day, but not now. This time around I'm on the couch laying on my right side full time 24/7 but luckily I can watch TV from that position. The Oxycodin barely touches the pain but at least it makes me sleepy so I can dooze the time away.

The MRI is scheduled for Monday and then I see the specialist hopefully in mid-week next week. The last MRI was three years ago so it'll be interesting to see how much change there's been since then. Well, at least I got the spraying done and the steps made for my son's new house before the back shut me down. When I was spraying I had to grab my left knee and pull my leg up to get it on the clutch because of the pain, but by golly, I got er done. Gotta go lay down, see ya later. Sorry to bore you with my whining. Jim

i understand you 100% i am fighting the same thing i got 3 discs massed up 2 of them are putting a lot of pressure on my spinal colum, i'm to where the pills are just candy, no benifit, ive been putting off surgery as 1 i dont know how long it will lay me up and there are things i have to do, the wife cant and should not have to run this place, and i dont know how much movement loss i will have after the surgery either, its the pitts

I hate it when that happens. I hauled can milk back in my younger days and between that and milking cows in a stanchion barn,I was in bad shape. There were times that I could only get around on my hands and knees.
It's probably been 6-7 years ago now,I was sitting back a little in my recliner and felt a catch way down in my lower back. I made up my mind I was gonna fix it or cripple myself permanantly,so I jerked up and twisted at the same time. I felt 2 pops lower than any chiropractor had ever made it crack and I've been pretty good for the most part every since.
Hope you find a cure. You sure have my deepest sympathy. Unless you've had severe chronic back problems, you can't imagine what it's like.
Get well.

not as bad as you have it right now
but have been there a couple of times due to a bike accident and lots aof abuse when younger

this gets me thru a lot of days

good luck

Well, at least you're trying to work through it. Hope you can get it fixed right without too much down time.

Jim would you believe I wish I could tell you I don't understand but I live with it 24/7 and yep no fun. Years ago my back got so bad I could not get out of bed with out help because of a henated disk and it had to be removed which gave me back my left leg but left me in pain 24/7. Well hope they find a way to fix you with out cutting on you.

Rich, when I was younger the back would suddenly snap and I'd be just like you were, in bed and not able to get out without help. Then for some reason that went away and was replaced with just a constant nagging that came and went, and when it did decide to get into a really bad mood it'd be a gradual decline until I finally wore down and went to the doc for some anti-inflammatory med. It never has completely debilitated me for longer than a week or so but this one takes the cake. I don't have any disk problems unless it's come on since the last MRI. What I do have is Stenosis, or a narrowing of the spinal column along with a vertebrae or two tipping a little which is very common in people our age. The other problem is a vertebrae that has fractured away and is sliding forward. The various doctors keep asking me if I played football and I tell them no, I don't know how it happened. Three years ago one specialist told me I need long rods and screws, but I didn't like him, so I went to another one and he told me he would never do a stabilization on a person my age because the spine is set in place and won't move anymore. So who do I believe? All I know is it's getting worse so obviously something is moving out of place. My ab muscles are so tight they look like a body builder posing for a picture. If the doc does do some cutting on me I sure as heck hope he does the right thing and after going to two doctors previously who had totally different opinions I don't know what to think. Jim

Ya any more hard to tell if the doctor is out to fix you or out to make some $$$ or both. Maybe you need one of those things you get in and hang down side up in and maybe that would pull your back straight either that or make you feel like a bat LOL. I never had any back problems till a guy sucker punched me and I went flying across a room in an auto parts store. I pressed charges on him but the P.A. didn't want to do any thing and let him off Scott free, on in other words the guy payed him off. Oh well such is life

My brother had surgery on his back at 35 years old lasted 5 years now the other side is starting. they plan on cutin again.Mine kills me somtimes but since I quit lifting anything over 10 lbs. it has become very tolarable.I don't know what will happen when I get old but???????

Then attempt to press charges?????

Real role model there Rich...... Think maybe if I wanted folks to feel sorry and coddle me, I wouldn't tell stories like that.

I know, I'm a meany.

Ya and until you can work a mile in my shoes you have no right to judge me and what and how I do things. As it is said judge not lest you be judged

from what I have heard back pain will be with you for four to six weeks ,usualy it will take care of its self try to get through it without getting surgery if you can , lots of the time once they cut on you things are never the same.I have messed mine up a couple of times and it just takes time , dont over do it once you start to feel a bit better also I got a new matteress and that made a HUGE difference good luck to you

Dad was having bad leg pain, Dr said it was coming from his back. Dr tried shots, did no good. The Dr was going to cut him open, with a 50% chance of any help. SO, Dad decided, with those kind of odds, he could try something himself first. For the price of one specialist visit, he bought himself an inversion table. My understanding is, you strap your ankles in, then this thing flips and you are hanging by your ankles. The theory is it will take pressure off your spine. He had to get used to it, but was finally able to do this for 15 minutes at a time. It worked! Now, when he feels it coming on, he does it some more-not using it regular right now! My uncle, with a bad sciatic (sp) nerve, could get no relief, and he tried it himself and now swears by the inversion table! Greg

I have had 5 bake surgeries if I remember right . Several times I have got down to where I could nt get out of the bed , could nt walk or stand up straight and the pain unbearable . I m still in pain 24/7 but I can get up and go and do get my work done but dought anyone would give me a job . I dont know if the pain has lessen or I have got used to it . I guess where I m going is try to do everything you can before you have surgery . They have alot better procedures now than back when I went through it . The big thing is to follow the doctors orders whatever you do . There is alot of us in your shoes , right now my left ankle feels like it is sprain from a pinched nerve in my back and live with this kind of pain at times but did nt follow the doctors orders and thats part of my problem . Hang in there we all hope the best for you . You said you back has bothered you for a long time , I bet you can think of what you did to make it flair up again . We have to stop doing those things and work smarter . Just a observation but I went to a farm action today and you could tell from the way a 1/3 of the people walked and looking for a place to sit down that there back hurt . I d say there s about as many bad backs as there are good ones . Take care of yourself and good luck !!

Bake surgeries , Wife has cookies in the oven guess thats what I m thinking about !!

My brother was pricing powerd wheel chairs, and the guy asked him what he had to loose with back surgery? He now can do anything but fly, socker, basket ball, motorcycle. He still has a habit of being bent over, but he has no pain, just a old habit from thirty five years of being bent over.

He could walk around fifteen to twenty ft, then had to get on one knee, was white as snow and sweating. Five munites of being on one knee and he would try again.

He was given life almost, and only had a 20% chance after the surgery of even walking.

Back painis a way of life in our family, sometimes it gets the upper hand, usualy it is just a day or two ordeal.
