OT Help from you Ford experts

My Dads 94 ranger has the v-6. It has had what sounds like ignition ping when driving up a hill for years but the new problem is that it sometimes ( especially when first started) has to think about what to do when you push the gas pedal. Its like you didn't do anything then it increases rpm some then eventually it revs to normal rpm. I've thought maybe the throttle position sensor or mass air flow but dont want to throw away money without a better idea. You guys have always has the answers before and sure hope yo can help me fix Dads truck.

Thanks to all

Have you tried premium gas for the pinging noise? I had a '92 with the 4.0l V6 and it really liked the premium gas. Mind you with a 4.0 in a little truck like that you didn't have to use the throttle all that much! I don't know about your other problem but likely a sensor.

unplug Throttle sensor, sweep test it with ohm meter . Bet theres a glitch just off idle position . Also check throttle blad for carbon . Won't hurt to claen MAF sensor also
