'67 GILSON-BEARINGS ON THE BLADE SPINDLE

I JUST RECEIVED THE BEARINGS I ORDERED TO REPLACE THE ONES THAT HAVE WORN OUT ON MY '67 GILSON TRACTOR.
THE BEARINGS THAT CAME ARE BALL BEARINGS, WHEREAS THE OLD ONES WERE CYLINDRICAL. WILL THESE STILL WORK OR SHOULD I SEND THEM BACK?
THANKS, JOE

The replacement bearings i received for the blade spindles are not cone, or cylindrical like the ones i removed. The new bearing are ball bearing type and have straight sides. I have taken the bearing assembly off the deck. I notice that there are ring clips holding bearing sleeves in place. Do i take out the ring clips and pound out the bearing sleeves? It looks like the new bearings would then fit that diameter hole. Let me know what ya think. I have never done this repair before.

Take the old bearings to your local auto parts store and see if they can match them. Should be easy if there's a number on the old bearings.
How were the old bearings lubricated? If they were a sealed bearing and your new ball beaings are sealed they should work fine as I have B&S engines that have ball bearings used as main bearings and they get lubed from the engine oil. The 10-20 McCormick Deering tractor
used similar bearings as main bearings. Hal

On our S14 Gilson with the 48" deck, I replaced the tapered roller bearings with ball bearings. The ball bearings last longer on this particular application. One reason is that Gilson puts the spindle grease fittings under the deck where they seldom get lubed. The ball bearings have seals that keep the factory lubrication in place.

would you happen to know where i can get a manual for my gilson tractor?. think it's a 71 or 72. need one really bad. thanks
