Any Case Diesel mechanics here

I have an 86 Case 580D w/207 nonturbo, yesterday while I was digging out an old footer the engine started lugging real hard while using the hydraulics, so bad that when I lifted the outrigger I had to stop twice or the engine would have died, this was from full throttle, then the tractor was running rough while I was driving it to where I parked it.
Due to problems both ways I'm thinking injector pump problem, just not sure, any help is appreciated.

Check the simple inexpensive things first. Replace the fuel filters, and make sure you don't have contaminated fuel. Check the air intake system and air cleaner. Then go to the injector pump. There are people on this forum that can walk you through troblshooting the pump and injectors, with more expertease than I have.

I don"t know that much about the Case backhoes in particular, as I tend to work on such a variety of equipment types and brands that I basically have to learn as I go. That said given what I have seen lately with the quality of fuel out there the first thing I would check is the filters. I say this mainly because you said the engine was running rough even when you weren"t using the hydraulics, and a hydraulic relief problem shouldn"t cause any problems when your not using the hydraulics for anything. With new filters run it again and see what happens and let us know. Personally I"d run some additive with the fuel also. I"ve had good luck with the Stanadyne as well as the Lucas brands...but my fuel mileage increase over plain fuel was about half again better with the Stanadyne.

I cast my vote to do the simple things first.
Filters first. About the hydraulic, does not seem like the relief valve blowing off would lug the engine down that much unless one of the valves is stuck

BAD DIRTY FILTERS IS MY VOTE also ,, don't matter what color of the rainbow the tractor sports , they AIN'T GONNA RUN, ON DIRT,WATER,OR SHEER VACCUM... if you are a SEASONED operator , and are certain that is not THE PROBLEM , Please repost Q...We wil try to HELP YA ' get that CAse diggin HARD AT IT,, AGAIN ...
