ford restoration project

I am currently restoring one of my Ford 1710 offset tractors and thought i'd share my project with everyone. When I was in grade school a neighbor owned a Ford 1710 offset in Buffalo, NY. This was the first time I had ever seen one and thought it was a really neat tractor right away. At that time, being in grade school and not having a job, I wasn't able to buy the tractor when my neighbor sold it. Many years had passed and I moved to Cincinnati Ohio, which is where I currently am, but I had always wondered what happend to that 1710 I loved and had pictures of me driving. As fate would have it, one day while i was searching the internet, I found that very 1710 offset tractor my neighbor owned and it was forsale about 15 miles east of where I lived in buffalo. I knew it was the same tractor because of the custom made weights on the front of it. I asked the owner if he bought it from Mr. Lamb on county road and he couldn't believe I knew where he got the tractor from! Well obviously I bought the tractor, who would have thought after many years passed... the one tractor i wanted i was able to buy! talk about finding a needle in a hay stack! Well when I bought the tractor it wasnt in as good of shape as it was when i saw it over a decade prior so I decided I wanted to restore it and bring it back to the condition it should be in! My dad and I have spent over a year working on it together and i'd say we're about half way done. It's been one of those projects you work on when you have time. Lately we've been making alot more time to get it finished so I'm hoping it'll be done by the end of summer. When it's done it should look just like it did when it came off the production line in 1986... I can't imagine there's another one out there that'll be in as good of shape mechanically and cosmetically.

I would really like to see photos of the tractor. Offset tractors intrigue me. Since I own a 1720 it is of special interest.

I read a couple of months back of a company that is buying used Kubotas and is turning them into offset tractors.

Depending upon whether a tractor has front wheel assist or not it might not be too difficult to get a rear axle housing made along with an extended axle. $$$$$ however. Expect the front would be the tricky part.

After my initial post I did several searches for the offset Fords. Found a number of photos showing examples and a couple of YouTube videos. None were real good in my opinion.

What did surprise me was how small the offset is. Though photos from head on don't seem available those that do show makes it appear less than I had imagined.

I did like the ones showing the high clearance models.
