Buying a small tractor

Anyone else notice that small utility/compact tractors are cheaper on the dealers lots than in private sales? I've watched small tractors sell at auctions for years and just assumed the new ones were much higher.

Our company needs a new 28-35 hp tractor and it looks like we'll end up buying a new JD 3032 or a New Holland TC35. If we go used in that size/power we'd be buying one with 10 years or more of use and only save a couple thousand over new price.

The older ones will last longer. That is why they still bring good money. With all the new EPA rules for farm equipment, they will not last long. 1 brother works for the green implement dealer and 1 brother works for the red dealer.

I just bought a new Kubota. Looked for years trying to find a decent used one at a reasonable price. Ended up buying a L3400. I couldn't see paying 2 grand less for a 10 year old machine with 1000+ hours and no warranty. Add in zero % financing and it's a no brainer.

From the other end of the spectrum,I tradeded my 15 year old Kubota in on a new kubota a couple of years ago and got what I paid for it new. I think my newer one is built just as good as the old one I traded in. I got 700 hours on my new one and had 2000 on the trade in. I never had a problem with either tractor. My old one was a 2150 and the new one is a 7800. I traded because I wanted to get a cab and could not find one to fit the 2150.

That is exactly what I've found. I've seen several 10 year old models with "normal" wear priced within 10% of the price of a new unit. They only start coming down in price if they've been beat to ****.

The prices really don't drop off much until they are almost 20 years old or older.

Do yourseld and the company a favor and look at KUBOTA before you buy.. Think you will find more tractor for your dollar especially the NH not sure how the deer will be priced.
