Gotta thread a new belt on the old pooper anyhoo, so figured this was as good a time as any to put an edge on those blades.

Spent all morning getting the little MTD Yardman all up and going. Mowed fer 'bout 5 minutes and promptly threw a bearing on the mower deck. So now, it's gotta come clear back down to parade rest again. Bummer.

IH/Woods sure makes better stuff. :>)

Dad has an L59 Woods mower on his H Farmall. Usually when I sharpen the blades I just use a floor jack and a rattle wrench to take the blades off. Knock the big chunks out from under the deck then put the blades back on and go like heck. You're right about Woods making a nice mower!

Got a very similar setup on my Cub--any idea where a good source for the spindle assemblies might be? Have broke a couple and I'm sure at some point in the reasonably near future they'll forget the talk that me and Mr. Welder had with them and need replacement.

If you have a Woods mower, call Joe, George or Steve at Henkens Implement. 308-432-5593.

Those guys can flat get ya anything ya need in the way of machinery. Not that bad in pricing either.

Hope you didn't mess up the shaft also. Are those greaseable bearings? If not, you might want to replace the others while it is down, or at least inspect them.

I hate lubrication problems. Just finished replacing clogged grease fittings on two loader pins.

Allen: thanks for the lead, but unfortunately, it's an IH mower. Spindle is a Danco 2587. Supposedly IH dealers can still get the parts, but haven't had much luck so far.

Allan,

I've gotten so I like the term "Bugger" for problems of this sorty. It can be interpreted in many intersting ways, dependion on your frame of mind.

Good luck with that "bugger"

I'm in no way connected to but you might try "Pete's Small Engine" [ http://www.lawnmowerstuff.com/ ] I orderd Belts for my MTD garden Tractor an 1996 - 800 ser All 4 belts 2 drive and 2 mower belts with shipping they were $93 I couldn't buy 2 From a local dealer for that price. They also have spindles and other parts I think the spindles started at about $35 around here they are $90.

The MTD deck bearings are 6204's. I just put in a set on my MTD. Came apart real easy. But i used a little heat before attempting to remove the bolts in the aluminum housing that hold it to the deck. Once you get the nut holding the blade and the pully off, it just taps right apart.

never mind the link won't go where I wanted .
