OT-auto cd player

My truck has a cassette player and I might be interested in having a cd player installed depending on cost. Not looking for a high $$ unit.

Anyone know about how much they run?

Can you recommend a brand?

try here - too many options but i would say that if you have a lot of cassettes and don't have a way to transfer them to cd you'll miss them.

Speaking of cassettes, I've heard there is technology now to digitize cassettes (or LP records) into your computer so they can be burned to a CD. Anybody got any specifics on this?

Cool.

Site had a search tool that brought up which ones would fit. Very limited on selection, but will suit my needs and not big $$. Also, from the reviews, looks like I might even be able to do this myself.

Thanks.

I agree with DDL!

Crutchfields is great. Their website will tell you what model stereos will fit your car or pickup.

I've done several complete car systems and it is really easy. At most, you might have to splice a plug-in between your vehicle's wiring harness and the stereo. Crutchfields really "holds your hand" in terms of having great documentation and wire splicing instructions.

One other comment on cassettes to CD...

The last two systems I've installed have had IPOD interfaces - which means you'll have a long cable coming from the stereo that you can plug an IPOD into...

It works really keen... Just load your IPOD up with however many thousands of songs, plug it in and leave it in the glove compartment. The stereo will keep the IPOD battery topped off, and you'll have every bit of your music, podcasts, etc, on hand all the time.

Nanner, most aftermarket radios will fit in your truck. the stereo place should have an install kit , basically a bag full of different plastic adapters to make the stock radio opening accept the aftermarket radio. also, they will have an adapter plug that will convert the factory car radio plug to connect with your aftermarket radio.

you sure can Nancy --- If ya can chanhe a headlight on a Chevy ya can replace the radio on that one .

I've got a thing that is supposed to convert cassette to MP3. Don't know if it works yet, I usually have to keep stuff a couple years after I buy it before trying it

Nancy, I may still have a AM/FM, cassette, and CD player that I took out of one of my cars before I sold it. Kenwood or Pioneer (??).
Can you install a normal size stereo, or do you have that big ford console thing that needs adapters? If I still have it, you can have it for the postage.
