re Well pressure tank

Well I aired up the old pressure tank of grandpa's and it worked to a point. Apparently there is quite a bit of sludge buildup inside of the tank and it is coming into the water lines when the tank is discharging, however when the pump kicks in it ckears up. It was a bladder style tank it turns out, even says so on it right in plain sight. Oops thanks to everyone for your help

When I replaced my bladder tank I cut up and removed the old bladder out of curiosity. You will be surprized and disgusted at the slime and sludge you find in there. It looked like the bottom of a ditch. Once the bladder leaks water into the bare metal tank it will not last much longer. If you care about gramps you will make arrangements for a new tank. TDF

Turn on the farthest faucet full force and take a flat boart and start tapping the pipe coming out of the pressure tank. Work your way towards the faucet. You won't believe what you will dislodge.

Greg I used to replace a lot of these tanks and found out from the manufacturer that the bigger they are the fewer times they will cycle. Life span is in cycles. Also larger diam. flexes less lasts longer. How old is your Grand dad? and who will live there next?

Grandpa is 90.. Grandma is in the home since she had a stroke about6 years ago. I don't know who will live there next. I used to have a hope it would be me to keep it in the family. Grandpa was born in that house so there's a lot of history. Most of the grandkids are grown up and moved away. Best thing would be to sell it rather than let it set empty.

Your grandparents should make that decision now as to what becomes of their home when they pass on. Need to get it in writing if they want you to have it, they should put your name on the deed. About 20 years ago I told my late mom to add my sister's name to the deed. She died in 1994, but a few years before that my brother's fifth wife stopped and wanted the home left to her. She would've sold it in a heart beat. My sister died in 2008 and my nephew now owns the house. Hal

You're right, however things change. My wife and I bought a house last year. It's newer with less to fix up and we're happy here. may as well let somebody that needs a house get that one I guess.
