Boy You Can't Fix Stupid - ME

Kinda thought I got a pretty good start today. Paid some bills, went to the bank and then ran all over getting filters, oil, etc for the long weekend.
Early afternoon, dropped the loader and changed oil in the compact tractor. Mowed everything - plus some more that should have had the brush hog. Thought everything was going good so fueled and fired up the weedeater to clean up a bit. Kinda got carried away and pretty sure I got into the poison ivy!
Kinda hot today so I put shorts on - Wonder if it took after a hot shower with Lava?

Might be okay but a cold shower would be better. Its supposed to close the pores. I have an old bar of Fels-Naptha laundry soap I wash with when I know I've been in it, and it does help

If tomorrow you find that taking the shower didn't help here is what I do when I have a problem with it. I spray a rag with carb cleaner from the spray can like O'Reilly's brand etc. I then wipe the area and most of the time it goes bye bye fast. Just had to small places on my arm the other day and sprayed my arm in that area and in 2 hours it was gone

One of the best fixes for this is washing with Dawn dishwashing liquid! It "cuts the grease" and gets rid of the poison ivy oils.

Not kidding, done it a few times now.

i know it is probably a waste when others have home made solutions for it...but the Tecnu company makes great ppoison ivy related products...i use the "outdoor skin cleansor" a lot in the spring/summer on my arms - seems to be effective in removing oils and, on the 2 occasions i have broken out in the last 5 years or so, i used the "extreme medicated scrub" which does a nice job speeding the healing process and relieving itch.
product is avail. at all drug stores and wally world.

Tecnu works. It's good stuff. I had a forest ranger tell me that he uses it almost like a barrier cream if he thinks that he's going to be in it. I've tried it that way when using a weedeater and I think it helps. I get a lot less rashes and mystery breakouts.

I wash with pure javax in the shower if i think I came in contact with it. If I get a woodtic tyhat sucks on, bingo poison ivey. Saskotoon leaves same thing. After I found out javax works what a relief not to be on steroids all the time. If I end up with the rash (do to neglect) I scratch it real hard and the let javax sit on it for 1 min. burns like heck but it sure works nice.

My wife, the nurse, does not approve of the following method, but it does work:
If you already have the bumps/blisters, scrub the area with a coarse washcloth or similar to open things up. Then dab and/or scrub with straight bleach. Make sure no little guys are around or they may learn some new words.
After the stinging subsides, you will be good.
I"ve also found that washing off with bleach after being in it (same day) seems to keep it away.
