Math / Carpentry Question

I have a carpentry / math question for you guys. I have two boards standing on edge with an angled cut in the bottom. I need to attach a board to these angled cuts, but need to know how to figure out what angle bevel to cut.

Draw a line continuing on from your two legs until they intersect. Then you esentially have a triangle. Than you can figure out your angles. Thats how I would do it. I dont claim to be a mathematician nor do I claim to be a carpenter. Just another tinkerer (if that is a word). Goodluck!

I can't answer your question. If I were needing to make the cut I would set a sliding tee bevel to the correct angle as per the one to match and simply set the saw blade to it.

I'm getting ready to make some replacement rafters and that is the method I will use--the sliding tee bevel.

I think you need to know what angle the short angled board is at and then divide the remaining angle by two and there is your cut. For example your corner is a 90 degree angle, if the board were at a 45 degree angle you would subtract 45 from 90 and end up with 45. Divide that by 2 and your cuts would be 22.5. It gets more complex if your short board is at a odd angle to both sides. Such as 35 degrees from one side and 20 degrees from the other.
