BATS,BATS,BATS

Can someone please tell me how to keep BATS away from the front and back porch's, They get up in the ceiling area and c**p all over everything below,,,,drives me nuts. HELP Jim in N M

you can buy or build a "bat-house" and nail it on the south side of a building you want them to move too. I paint buildings and several times the customer has had me fasten a bat house on the south side of their barn. I don't know why but the bats seem to move from the house to their own bat house.
You can "google" bat houses on your computer and find free plans that show how they are made.
It may take a while before they find it but eventually they will move.

you can hang bags (pantyhose) with moth balls in the area u want to keep them out. If you build a house else where they will hopfully go there and not come back to your porch after u remove moth balls

Why dont you just build a bat house so they have some place to go they are great for catching bugs wish i had some here.

They will all be dead in a few years. White nose, a fungus is supposed to almost wipe them out. Least that is what the Mo. Department of Conservation is warning.

From time to time, we do this for out clients. You must use calk to fill all holes except one for them to travel in and out. Then you take a three ft chunk of 1 1/2" pvc pipe for them to travel in and out for a few days.

After that you can cover the outer end of the pvc pipe with pantyhose, like a sock. They can get out, but not back in. That is the earth friendly version.

If you want to discard the bats, do al the above, except place a five gallon bucket half full of water under the pvc pipe. When bats exit, they must drop for a few feet before they can open their wings up. If they drop in the bucket, they will drown------that is what I have HEARD anyway.

Don't know about in the rest of the U.S. but here in MO bat are protected by law because of having a few endangered breeds of them in this state

Don't know what the laws are like up your way but in MO if you get caught killing bats you get a big fine for it since they are protected in this state. There are even a number of public caves that are closed at times of the year since they have bats that hibernate in them.

If you are handy, google the plans and make a bat house. I ordered this one and it is pretty nice.

I'd try to keep them around, just in a place of my choosing.

I have bats in my belfry too. They get in our upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms. I have yet to figure out how they are getting in. Yes they do crap over everything especially the lamp shades for some reason. They cast strange shadows when the TV is on and they fly figure eights above my head at night.

I have calked every possible place of entry including the places where the plumbing goes through the drywall. The dryer vent is screened to keep them from entering. The only place I can figure they are coming in is the chimney for the furnace and the water heater.

I catch them with a fishing net and they tend to die as I transport them outside in the net with my gloved hand squeezing them tightly. They have claws to grip and hang at the center of their wings and they screech like heck when caught. The cat just watches them and seems to be not interested in catching them. Maybe she is smarter than I figured.

They come out just at dusk and can be seen flying around the tree tops catching insects.
