Just curious if anyone has heard anymore of Toyota's gas pedal problems ? Was all you heard in the news then poof ! not a single word about it as far as I have heard.
Was it the pedals ? did the shims fix them ? be kinda nice to know.

We have an 09 Camry and haven"t seen anything. Last I heard that Toyota was finally able to simulate the problem and found a short with the gas pedal because they use a throttle by wire like most all manufactures use now. This was also reported sometime ago as a possibility by a retired automotive engineer on his blog. The throttle transducer may be the culprit and is manufactured by a company in the midwest that makes them for most all companies in the US and Canada so this is purely a guess is why it got quelled. Bear in mind all these devices are spec"d by the car manufacturer. My new Harley has throttle by wire and I"m not real pleased with that since it is their new adventure.

They must have nipped it, because it fell totally out of the news.
The problem was with the friction brake in the pedals and the shim's seemed to have fixed that.
Early in the recall /repair, some claimed a few pedals were still sticky.
Toyota said those were from mechanics making a mistake while doing the pedal repair. They said there are several thickness shims, the mechanic has to measure the gap in the pedal assy and chose the correct thickness shim. aparently some were messing up and installing the wrong thickness shim.
The models with the floor mat problem have had shorter pedals installed and redesigned floor mats installed.
On my 2010 Prius, they reflashed the antilock brakes computer to shorten the lockup to unlock delay time by 6/100 of a second.
I can't feel 6/100 of a second difference and never noticed any problem with the antilock brakes, but some customers complained that the could feel the difference and it scared them.
All 2009 and earlier Prius had the shorter time delay.
No electronic throttle or computer problems have been found, so It appears to have been sticky CTS throttle assys, loose floor mats and folks that cant tell the gas and brake pedal appart.

Gulf oil spill gave them something new to speculate on. Best thing that could have happened for Toyota.

Jon, it was on the national news maybe about six weeks ago with Katie Couric and now I can't find anything about it, I assure you I had just walked in from the garage and it was on, now there is nothing anywhere that I can find with that said Toyota like many other mfgrs. spend mucho bucks in TV advertising can quell bad news quickly, believe me it definitely happens i.e. JD's vehicle of the year matches their advertisers income right down the line. Sorry it's just the way it is, I've been there.

I had a very similar problem in 1985 with a
new Chevrolet Monte Carlo. My wife said it took
off suddenly for no reason. I did not believe
her until I drove it myself.
Took it to our local GM dealer and they replaced
some components and the ecm. They said they were
doing 3 to 5 cars a week. There was no charge.
And, as I remember this problem did not even
make the evening news. Go figure. I guess today
we have 24 hour news to fill.

Here's a recall I never heard about on the news. Kinda strange that all of Toyota's problems at the same time the Goobermnet took over the competition and got a bunch of news time by the same out fit that is owned by GE who took free money. How long has it been now since NBC rigged the safty test so the Chevy pickups would blow up?

Dave
wheels falling off jeeps and this didnt make the news?

I AM COMMENTING REGARDING MEMBERS WITH TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCKS, IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THE FEAL OF THE GAS PEDDLE AFTER THE SHIM WAS INSTALLED IN GAS PEDDLE, TELL DEALER YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH FIX, THERE IS NOW A NEW REVISED PEDDLE THAT WORKS MUCH BETTER, IF THE DEALER GIVES YOU ANY CRAP CALL TOYOTA CORPORATE 1-800-331-4331 THEY WILL CALL DEALER AND TELL THEM TO ORDER NEW PEDDLE AND REPLACE IT PERIOD. GOOD LUCK. FAST EDDIE

The only thing that I head lately is that the number of deaths that are alleged to have resulted from runaway Toyota vehicles due to unintended acceleration is now 89.

Maybe the pay offs to suppress the news have taken hold.

I think if I owned any vehicle manufactured by Toyota , I would be contacting them to check on a recall [if any]
Saw there was a recall for Daihatsu [certain models] dating back to 1988 manufacture.
