D-max trailer brake problem

I have a 2007 Duramax. All trailer wiring works except the brakes. When I apply the brakes, then check the pin at the back with a test lite, I get a brief flash, then nothing. Remove the test probe, then do it again, and same thing, quick flash then nothing. What am I missing?

I don't know what you're missing, but so you don't feel special, My 05 1/2 ton does about the same crap.

Did you have to put the "fuse" in the panel under the hood? I had to on mine, but none the less, it still don't work. Seems like I had to do something else on mine too.. Can't recall what though.

Mine was not originally equipped, I added it all on way after the fact, but I did get all my harness, fuses, etc from the dealer when the truck was purchased.. Should have just let them do it for me I guess :/

I have had it hooked to 2 different trailers, but have no brakes. I did not run the wire for live power to back of truck. When I hook up a trailer I do get a message- trailer connected, but still no brakes.

I assume you have the built in factory brake controller? When you check voltage at the back pin have someone depress the brake pedal or squeeze the slide switch. I assume you have set the gain up from zero? You do this by the push buttons next to the manual apply switch. If none of these things help your probably going to need to have a dealer look at it. I know GM had some problems with the rear control modules on the early 07's.

The trailer brake module is seeing the trailer brakes. This is done by the message that you noted. The trailer brake module may have a diagnostic trouble code stored, and will not allow braking. You need to use a scan tool, such as the one used by the GM dealer to help identify the problem.

the test lamp does not draw enough amps to test the system. you would have to use a halogen head lamp bulb. on the factory brake controlers we have found that some of the older trailer magnets are not strong enough. hope this helps david
