This is the first year for me to farm land with a landowner on a 50/50 basis. I"m beginning to think that the past farmer didn"t spend any money on the proper amount of fertilizer, nitrogen, etc. Maybe that"s why they only got 140-150 bu. corn. The landowner got used to only paying for that amount of materials too. The soil is good enough to go for 200 bushel so we agreed to go for it. Of course that means paying more for the materials! Some people don"t understand you have to put something into it if you want to get something out. I told him I got 210 bu last year on my farm 2 miles away in similar bottom ground soil and he was surprised. He might be thinking 150 bu corn was great with the varieties available 30 years ago. Oh well, we"ll see how it works out. He"ll like the payout in the fall if we can get a decent crop!
