Installed a set of points set and condenser, also installed a ingition coil. The problem I'm having is I'm not getting any spark from the plugs. What could be the trouble.do the positive side of the coil wiring go to the alternator and the negative side wiring go to the distrbutor or do I have them backwards.Could it be out of time? The engine just turns over, nothing else. This is a J.D 1950 model A

Either the + or - depending on how the battery is connected goes to the ignition switch for battery pickup. If you have an Alternator and a 12 volt system then it should go to the ballast resister.
I strongly suggest that you get a book on basic ignition systems so that you can understand how they are wired. Its real hard to explain in a note as their are several different types. Try looking it up on Google.

If battery is connected (+) ground, power from ignition switch to (-) side of coil, (+) side of coil to distributor.

If battery is connected (-) ground, power from ignition switch to (+) side of coil, (-) side of coil to distributor.

Connect a test light between the distributor side primary terminal of the coil and chassis ground.

Turn on ignition and crank engine... what does the test light do?

You say--does the positive side of the coil go to the alternator----NO! It should be connected to the ignition switch. Your alternator would not have current flowing from it when the engine is not running.
