Air intake question

My 3 cylinder john deere which I have not repaired yet pulled in a lot of chaff from weed tops last year while I was ploughing.I cleaned it all up;rad and all, left it set all winter. It starts and runs a bit better now but not all three cylinders are firing properly it seems. It lacks some power and runs rough.I noticed their was no air filter on the intake to the oil bath filter air intakee filter.
My question now May it be possible air is still the problem if this chaff carried further into the engine? At the time black smoke blew out the stack and power loss wass severe.I limped it back to the garage.I also checked the injectors loosening one at a time. The front injector acts diffirently than the other two. What to do? Perhaps I simply have an injector problem.Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hello Ron Corkum,
Start the engine from cold(OVERNIGHT) or at least 4 hrs after shut down. Then check the heat on the exhaust on each cylinder.
If you do not have a temperature gauge, check with your fingers. Just touch each one for a second or so, and compare the heat. At this time the ports should not be really hot enough to burn you. Be careful just the same. You can also try a bit of white lube on each exhaust port, and observe how they melt. If a cylinder is not firing at all the grease will not melt.If its weak it will be last one to melt if at all.
Good Luck...................Guido.

Somebody has been been trying to ruin your tractor.
The 510 uses dry air filter #AH 19852 H.
The good news the 510 uses the Dubque style engine. Any old three cylinder from a 1120 etc will bolt right in.
Are you located in Quebec Canada or in Europe?

I am located in Nova Scotia,Canada The 510 JD I own has a 3 cyl diesel engine made in the Mannheim Plant in Germany. The preliminary dust trap for the air cleaner has never existed on this tractor since I have owned it.I realize now this likely was the source of my fuel burning problem in the first place. I now understand this air filter attaches to the oil bath air filter and needs to be there,I found a picture in my operators manual

Thank you everyone for your posts they were very helpful, and if anyone else has any further comments to add, please do.

Guido I used your grease method to check the three exhaust ports. I placed a small squirt of blue grease on the top side of each manifold exit, ran the tractor, scooped and hauled a couple part buckets of top soil but each grease spot looks equally melted. Now,This takes me back to air intake the source of the problem in the first place. When the tractor runs, there is a back pressure through the air intake. There must be further blockage within the air intake side of the engine it seems to me.
Does anyone have any experience with such problems here??
