Ok guys I asked a simple question about the air bags in the neighbors daughters car. All I did was give you the info on what happened nothing more. So how did it get so off track?? All I did was ask why the air bags didn't blow but you guys had to go into areas I did not know about or ask about all I was doing was help a friend out and reporting etc etc etc was up to him all I did was pull it out and take it home which was all of 1.5 miles if that far. So why do you guys read so much into a simple question when all I ask was why the bags didn't go off?????????????

As someone else said, with frontal air bags, a rollover usually won't deploy them. It varies from make to make, but a rule of thumb is it takes a 14 mph FRONTAL impact to deploy them.

Front air bags are usually useless in a rollover.

Now see you just answered what I asked in my first post but did not answer what was asked here which was WHY did it get so far off track???

Friend of mine had a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, hit one of those things that tells you to merge into the other lane at 70 mph and the air bag never went off. It was type that is a trailer and has a flashing arrow on it.

Old, after reading the replies below I can't believe no one scolded you for not getting a permit to pull a car out of a ditch.

Never seen a roll over, but a buddy of mine put his truck on it's side one night and the air bags didn't go off. He didn't do as much damage as what you are talking but still messed it up pretty good.

You done good by helping a neighbor out.

Old, whenever I am going to start a thread I think for a few minutes about what could be taken wrong or misunderstood and try to add explanation to try to make it completely clear. but there are always those who can misunderstand anything, or have a vivid enough imagination to dream up something that isn't even there. Usually It's more in how they word it than what they say.

old a few years ago my youngest daughter did exact same thing 1/2 mile from our house, too fast & too close to edge on our gravel road
rolled it once over & back on wheels
roof crushed, car totalled, no air bags deployed
pontiac grand prix
i drove it home & parked it behind garage no police report filed figured she learned a lesson , the hard way & involving cops when no injury happened would not benefit anyone
if some one calls & asks for same favour you did, i would not hesitate to help out
thats what freinds do for each other

Old , you do it all the time . I have seen someone ask about there pole barn and you start bragging about shooting 5 deer or making 2000 lb. bales with a 850 NH , and somehow you can get to talking about the Navy out of a blind cow discussion !!

Old has had his questions answered so I'll comment on the road sign crash.

Maybe he's dislexic?

Has anyone else noticed how many times when the sign says left lane closed ahead, people will move into the left lane.

Next sign should say "other left".

The air bag goes off based on the rate of deceleration, and two sensors must go off at the same time. One of the sensors will be in the air bag computer. The two sensors act like a gun with a safety and a trigger.

Rich, its just hard sometimes to get people to give you the EXACT answers youre lookin for, but hey its free and fun and in good faith usually, so I dont look a gift horse in the mouth.

Take care down there now

On a Ford, the Restraints Control Module or RCM is the deciding factor of the system. On an Escort there is a frontal crash sensor near the radiator support and a safing sensor near the base of the firewall inside the cabin. Both sensors need to detect a severe enough deceleration for the RCM to deploy the bags. If the airbag warning light was on at the time of the crash, there could have been a fault that prevented the bag(s) from being deployed. Even if the warning light is on, the RCM will still try to deploy the bags provided the sensors were functional in a crash. Side curtain bags work very similar. They have a separate module that communicates with the RCM, but the operation is very similar.
Disconnecting the battery for 3 minutes is enough time for the RCM to power down and not be able to deploy a bag.

some people just have to worry about "THE LAW" more than the common sense law no need for her to have to pay a fine or inflated insurance rates that goes with being young and making a mistake. I did have a wreck just after getting my license and my uncle was there to talk to the cop single vehicle, busted lip, bruised knee. Uncle talked the cop into just making a report that there was a wreck he was talking about charging me with a traffic violation and at 16 could have been a big deal. poor road conditions and 71 chevy truck coil spring suspension contributed to my lack of experience. Good thing my Uncle was there to talk to cop after it was all said and done I got the wrecker driver to drop me off at school.

A grey area that most certainly depends on the circustances.
I don't see the need for the authorities to stick thier noses into every little aspect of our lives.

Well its like this old, you can be a nice guy, whatever --but it seems you ask a thousand questions to just pass the time right? So why would it upset you to get a grip on how far you stuck your neck out?

Do you think the coments were to be mean spirited? Or to help you in the future -- more like a awarness that you can take or leave.

As you can tell by the smart remarks, alot of these folks live a very sheltered life, and have no clue as to what happens to nice guys.

Now if you want to fault anyone including myself, that is your privalage.

If you look at your posts, there is nothing you do or see that you don't post about. We all enjoy your posts, but it is no different than a bunch of guys shooting the breeze right? I think you are proud of how often you post, as your coments tend to lean that way.

Most of the folks on this board are looking for entertainment, simple as that. And we all have our bad days. Would you not offer advise to a friend? Especialy if the friend had no idea of the problems he could face?
And we can sure bet some of the folks on this board are including myself are in for a big surprise when trying to be a good guy with out knowing.

Perhaps we aren't as perfect and smart as some of these folks, but we probably have good intentions.

We stray, like some who can get politics involved with your big toe hurting, it's usualy the same ones with the smart remarks. This probably reflects their personal life as well, they usualy stand out in any crowd. That doesn't make them bad people however.

Oh I'm not getting up set about the answer just wondering why I can not get a straight forward answer to what I thought was a simple question

Well I was doing was asking a simple question about the bags. As to what lead up to her rolling the car I do not know and it is not my business. For all I know she could have been mad at mom and dad and took off to she her boy friend or just taking a drive or who knows what. I do know I had drank more then she had that evening since I had drank 1 beer and when I got the call was just about to open my 2nd but that 2nd one got put on hold till I got break. Oh by the way I know the drinking laws also and with having a CDL I keep up on the laws because if stopped cops look at it and say you know better and slap you harder

I wasn't getting upset or mad I was just looking for a simple answer which I think I sort of got. As for the laws in my area something like that is common place and the cops almost never even come out to a wreck like it because it was 1 car and gravel and no one got hurt, scared to death yes hurt no. But your also old enough to understand how neighbors helps each other or did say 30 years ago now day it is not a common place thing but I know this guys dad and he and I have known each other for almost 30 years. So even the guys dad has told him hey you need something call Rich

It's called Liberalism. You do something nice for someone and there's a whole bunch of people wanting to step on your toes because they are not good enough inside to do it themselves. Getting on here is a prime example that they are everywhere. It took them eighty years to get to this point and these folks, as good as they probably believe they are, are a prime example of the brain washing that has happened in that time. All of them should stop and look at themselves and realize just what has happened here in this country, but they will not.

Dislexic??? Did you know that is a problem in left handed people and about 99% of them/US are dislexic and a lot of them do not know or understand how because we think with the other side of our minds that it is easy to see things back wards for right handed people. JFYI by the way

95% of the time I will in fact give the answer as correct as I can but yes I many add some colorful comment as I do to keep things light hearted and fun.

What you mean like the people in town that have a house 100 feet from them but have no clue as to the name of the person it that house. And if asked for help would walk back in there house and call the cops?? Ya sad how it has gotten in the U.S. years ago neighbor would help neighbor but now days that does not happen and if it does then you have people telling you that you should not do so because it is not legal or something LOL

Well at the risk of getting slammed here goes. As I was told,it takes a frontal crash to set off an airbag. In most cases a rollover may or may not set them off. It all has to do with the sensor that controls the bag.
Unhooking the battery will not set them off because you are not messing with the sensor. If it is hooked up and you working on the car. You can set them off by hitting the sensor or shorting out the wrong wire.
I see nothing wrong with what you did in getting the car home. I know down here if it is a one car wreck and no one is hurt. The cops will not come out.I live in the country and our cops have better things to do. Than come out and tell you. Yep you had a wreck allright.
