Decided to insulate new furnace and duct work in garage. amazed at how much old work had air leaks. already notice fan does not run so much on both heating and cooling

Even if you've done that once, need to check it from time to time- as sticky as it is, duct tape eventually dries out and lets loose, so the joints that were once tight are now leaking.
 
Never could understand the savings if you have the duct work running through an area that you are heating anyway. It either comes out the register or along the line getting to the register.
 
One of the smartest ideas and acts I've ever seen on this site.
Air leaks transfer all kinds of heat and humidity. Yet air leaks are ignored and people keeping adding more insulation.
Can't heat or cool a place economically. If the air leaks add up to the similar airflow as having a door or window open.
 
foil lined buble wrap stuff friend in heating business recomened it came in 4 foot wide by 110 foot roll get also roll of aluminum tape

Duct tape is not meant for duct joints at all. They should never have started calling it that. Foil duct joint tape or a mastic sealer should be used.
