had an interisting afternoon today at the body shop. the local county sheriff's and the adjacent county brought out their k-9 units to train at the shop. had drug sniffing dogs and also bomb sniffing dogs. they hid packets in about 7 junk cars we have in the tow lot, and then hid some in the paint shop and metal shop. wanted to see how the dogs could handle all the different chemicals we have. amazing to see those dogs work!!! the drug dogs get all excited when they locate sopmething, but the explosives dogs stop in their tracks and lay down, staring at the the area they located the bomb materials. funny thing tho, none of the dogs would get near the spot where kruser was standing when we loaded the tires for his tractor this spring. sherriff said there musta been a skunk or something in that spot!!!!
oh, and yup, they did find all the materials, and there werent no extras!!!

when i was back in high school they used to bring the dogs in once in a while...one day i got called to my locker, i was sweatin bullets figuring somebody dumped there stash thru the slats for me to take the fall....i opened the locker...the dog sniffed out the peanut butter jar i had in there for the egg-drop competition in science class...officer apologized and said the dogs name is peanut for a reason! scared the heck out of me!

Sounds like a good show to me.

You've got to enjoy watching K-9 dogs working like that.

Good thing you "pawned" off those wheels and tires to [b:654c4848f0]kruser[/b:654c4848f0] before the drug sweep.

Hey [b:654c4848f0]kruser[/b:654c4848f0] you might want to check inside those tires; no tellin' what kind of deal [b:654c4848f0]glennster[/b:654c4848f0] had going down.

OT: how's the creek improvement project coming along?

How many billion dollars have we wasted on this war on drugs? And you can still buy drugs anywhere. All we have done is to raise the price of drugs and put over a million people in jail. It didn't work for the prohibition of booze; it hasn't worked for drugs. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Just my opinion.

I agree. Since drugs are so addictive that people are willing to steal, kill, etc. for them it would save money in the long run to just put dealers and junkies to death.

Illegal drugs----auto death sentence. We could take a few lessons from other countries about some things. Think of the misery that drug dealers and users heap upon others. I'll bet every single one of us knows of a theft of copper, etc. which was ultimately used to buy drugs.

To save some of those billions just use a firing squad rather than spend thousands of dollars on a so called humane execution. BOOM! Problem solved.

Sorry rant over. I have no tolerance at all for illegal drugs.

Glennster, I work in a lumber yard with a large warehouse. My sister in law trains dogs for search and rescue and they did a training in the warehouse. There had been lots of people through there and it was very interesting to watch the dogs follow the scent that they were supposed to and to totally ignore everything else.
She had one of her dogs that they tested to see if they could make a drug dog out of it. It was taught to respond different for drugs than for people. She was doing a presentation one time and had a child go hide, when she had the dog start his search for the child he started working and when he got to one cabinet door he stopped and signalled for drugs and my sister in law asked the police officer who was there if there had been any drugs in that cabinet and he said yes that they had hid drugs there for a drug presentation about a month earlier.
My sister in law told the dog to FIND and the dog went back to searching for the child and found him within about 2 minutes. Steven

Try Toronto as they prep for the G20 conference. Or the G8 in cottage country.
They spent millions in a hick town to upgrade roads, cellular, data communications, internet etc. For the two day G8 conference in Huntsville. Located in the outskirts of Podunk.

You must have either hid your "stash" pretty good or get high enough off all the normal fumes in a body shop. LoL Dave

james, creek improvements are moving slow right now. i am building a different running gear set up for my meyer elevator to get it low to the ground, and narrowing up the axles to get it between the trees so i can get to the creek edge. i have my chute figured out, so it should be easy to direct the stone on the creek bank without having it all roll out in the creek. had a big willow go down last week into the creek too, so now i have 4 big trees to cut out of there. gonna be a swamp logger i guess!!!

I have a friend who works in drug enforcement and he told of a fellow who put cocaine in a sealed glass container and plaaced it in a fuel tank and the dog was able to detect the cocaine through the diesel fuel.

you must not have many employees if they didn't find any "extras".

We used to hire a new welder every so often and had discussions like this.....

welder "I've got to tell you guys something, I've got a bit of a drinking (or drug) problem but I need work"

Me "Well you'll fit right in! all of those guys have the same problems.........get to work"

I've known of people arrested and cuffed who would manage to stuff their contraband in the crack of the back seat of the cop car. Sometimes when the cop cleaned their cars they would find it and then try to figure it who it belonged to.

I bet them dogs couldn't have stayed in the same room. With my son when he took his shoes off. He could peal paint off the walls with the smell.

I was working in Plainfield, IL (Will County) yesterday, rounded the corner and were Cook County guys all over an old abandoned building practicing. On face value, I figured probably get permission to do it in surrounding counties so no one in their county is familiar with their tactics, and vica-versa. That's the part of me that trusts our government. The other part of me? Not comfortable with the motives out of our politicians...and stockpiling like many others.

Mark

mark, the k-9 units need to keep changing their practice locations so the dogs dont get "used" to the same area. that way, when they go to an actual drug or explosives situation, the dogs stay in their best performance. the sherriffs yesterday said its hard to find locations for them to train their dogs at, and they were really excited they could use my shop.

Every so often, the sheriff's department brings a drug dog through the high school. Quite a few kids get nervous. They regularly check the parking lots and every once in a while, find some drugs. The staff rarely hears about it as they are pretty closed mouthed , probably required by law.

HEY GLENNSTER - I HEARD THAT!

Kinda wondering why the local "dogs" have been around them tires?
Musta been Smilin John's scent - I spiffed up before heading your way.
