Change a sprocket to a V belt

I believe my flail mower came from the factory with V belts. When I bought it, it came with a chain drive on the balde drum. I want to go back to belts, but don;t know how to measure the chain sprocket to get the same size pulley for belts. Any help appreciated. Stan

NO need to MEASURE the OD of the sprockets,

Count the teeth on the drive and driven sprocket to get the ratio.

Then, use the largest pullies that will physically fit in the space available, while keeping the same ratio.

Can you check with the manufacturer or a dealer as to what the original parts were? Unless the manufacturer is out of business I would go that route.

Stan, I would definitely try to get the original equipment. Flail mowers use a short, wide belt that you're unlikely to be able to find in just any length; if you use the original pulleys then you can use the OEM belt. You'll also need the idler and tensioner mechanism.

My mower (a Mott F6) appears to use the same pulley for both the driveshaft and the cutter shaft (ie. 1:1).

Montage carries only one pulley for all the Mott rear-mount mowers, that might be what you want. Call them up. They were real helpful when I needed a new roller shaft for my ancient Mott; they actually had one made up special for me.

My Ford 917 Flail is belt-driven..

Pulley off gearbox is way MORE than Twice the size of the pulley that drives the flail drum..

I think mine is a Double groove/Single Belt..might be 3 grooves/single belt..

I seam to have bought a mower that is no longer being made. I think the brand may be Dandl or something like that. I may be able to someone else,s pulley like you seggested. Thanks stan
