The only thing I found on the hydrant is ..Merrill Mfg. Co

Do I have to dig it up ?? or can it be fix without pulling it up ??

I NEVER have done this ... so ANY advice on how and what to do ? , ....what do I look for and how do I fix it ??

THANKS for ANY advice you want to share ...

well if it is not in a sleeve like a piece of PVC pipe or such you will have to dig it up. If you dig it up sometimes if your in heavy soil like clay they need some gravel in the ditch or a hose run down the ditch to get the drain back water away from the area. If the hydrant has a 4" piece of PVC pipe down the hole, then the hydrant inside of it, you can actually unscrew it from the line after shutting off the water to replace it without digging it up. You need to use 10feet or so of steel line at the end of the waterline a street ell or an elbow to do it that way though.

That's a GOOD brand!

Shut off the water supply.

Unscrew the complete "head" off of the hydrant and remove it, pulling up whatever length of valve rod you have going down (depending upon the frost line depth for your area for which it is set up). At the bottom of the rao will be the valve. Seals/leathers/parts should be available at a local farm supply.

P.S....

I should have asked for more details about how it's leaking.

The hydrant is designed to drain at the bottom, below frost depth, when shut off, so if the shutoff valve is leaking it will continuously drain out the bottom, probably rising to the surface and giving the appearance of a leak.

HOPEFULLY, that is your problem and repairing and adjusting the valve why be the cure.

Of course, if something is rusted through, frozen or broken below-ground it'll have to be dug up.

Bob,
The problem I had last winter was it wouldn't shut off ... after a few nice words and open and shuting it off I got it to shut down ..
this spring I went into the shed it's in and it was a steady leak { past a dripp }
So I thought ... and put a hose on it and shut the hose off so it wasn't running ...
a few weeks later my well was down ... so I shut the pump off ... well is back up and everthing works great ... just have to shut pump off and when I'm done shut the pump off again ... kind a pain in the butt ...

Got a thinking what rusted nuts said... and it has to be this hydrant { I hope }

THANKS ... Mark
