Ariens YT12-38 Implement Power Lever

The Implement Power Lever on my Ariens YT12 -38 tractor should operate in a manner that when pushed forward tension is applied to the main drive belt that drives the main pulley on the mower deck as an idler pulley places tension on the belt. Something has apparently happened causing my idler pulley to place tension on the Main Drive Belt only when the lever is pulled backwards towards the seat. Can someone out there tell me how I managed to screw up the linkage ... if that is what I did?

I have a murray that wiwll do that if the idler puller gets on the wrong side of the drive belt
