I recently picked up an older Brillion rotary mower and have a question about the PTO shield. It is a metal one and rotated on ball bearings. Is there any repair for these or can one of the plastic shields be adapted.

Baum Iron, in Omaha (GOOGLE it) can supply shield parts for MOST ag drivelines. It shouldn't be necessary to cobble something up in this vital safety area!

I had one of those on my hay rake but it wasn't connected to anything so I took it off.
When those things are working, I am in the driving seat, when I leave that they are dormant. You can't fix anything when it is spinning. Too many people getting spun so I wouldn't like to join them.

Bendee, I also have made it a point to always turn the PTO off and lock the tractor brakes before I get off of the tractor. I was hoping that there would be a repair kit out there for these metal shields. It looks to me like the bearing was installed on the shaft before welding the end up so when it is shot the options are not having a shield or a complete new shaft assembly. I guess that is why there are so many non working PTO shields out there.
