Delco 10SI Alternater Pulley Nut

Went to change to a large width pulley to take a 5/8" belt and the new pulley was counter bored and the original nut wouldn't fit inside the counter bore. Did some research and apparently the alternater shaft is M17x1.5 metric and requires a long neck nut.The local parts store never heard of such a nut and couldn't "Order it". Where do I find this nut. Has anyone else experienced this problem trying to retrofit a pulley on a Mid 1970's Delco 10 si alternater? bjr

Are you sure it is metric. USA made, 1970's
If you do not have a Bridgeport or lathe, I
think I would head to the local machine shop.
Where are you located? I have had to machine quite a few pulleys to fit and it is not very hard to do.

Delco 10SI and 12SI shafts are 11/16", or better said .67" OD or 16.9 mms.

I've put 5/8" belt-width pulleys on many and used the original nut and it was never an issue.

I suspect your problem is based on the specific pulley you're using.

A local Starter, Alternater, Service shop had a long neck nut for the Delco 10SI. The guy said it's application is mostly for Ag tractors where the belt is wider and a wider pulley is needed. $2 for it and I was thrilled to find it. On to the next OOps or Uh-Oh problem. bjr

On a couple of occasions, I've had to chuck the pulley in a lathe because the depression was too small of a diameter to get a socket in a there. It normally takes just a few small passes to make it work.

Those threads ARE NOT metric.

If you have purchased an oddball pulley that needs a special nut it should have come with the pulley. If not, contact the supplier of the pulley and *&@(% 'cause they slipped you the @^&#(#$!.
