am I crazy?

I work at construction all week sometimes jackhammering ., all last week putting in forms for sidewalks and pouring concrete and did a side job 2 nights . Also stop at the nursing home to see my mom every night on the way home. I live in nj but our farm is a little over an hour away in pa ,. The land is leased to a neighbor farmer, but I have 2 ford tractors there that I mow with and till garden patches with. My wife thinks I am a little bit crazy for growing the garden after working so hard all week . The problem is I can not explain to her how much I love being there and driving my tractor and working in my garden and around the farm it is work but I really enjoy it. I just wanted to type this little speech because on this site I dont feel like I am alone even if I am crazy. thanks for letting me vent.

I do the same thing except I work on airplanes all week.My wife understands because she grew up on a farm so I guess I'm lucky. That type of work makes me feel like I'm actually doing something that most people don't get to experience anymore. It gives total satisfaction even when equipement breaks because I get to fix it myself rather than pay someone else. It's my land, my machinery,my speed.

No less crazy than chasing a white ball looking for gopher holes, walking around the wood chasing animals, drowding worms for hours on end, going to the bar and sitting for hours on ends, planting yourself in front of the tube watching someone else play a game, etc..... Nothing against any of this just not my thing as are a ton of other things which could be listed here.

Point is we all have our thing which allows us to relieve our weekly stress and as I tell my wife, I don't get your thing so you don't have to get mine. I occasionally remind her you should be happy I like to collect and keep old things around. Although I can only do that when the timing is right. LOL

No Larry your a normal hardwoking man like the rest of us. I work all day then come home and work till dark outside cleaning up the property I bought, pulling fences, felling trees ect. And love every minute of it. ENJOY Mike

Its simple you are man-of-the-land! Its in your blood. To me I love the smell of fresh plowed ground, a cut field of clover in the morning, the first cut soybeans and corn. Just simple pleasures. Bandit

GOOD MORNING:
MY GOOD FRIEND:

Before I get started how has every one been?
Now to answer your question: You are no more crazier than any one else on here, We love what we do and we do what we love. Playing in the grease and digging in the dirt
Keeps us Young and Healthy and our mind alert. So remember MY Good Friend: There
Will come a day when we can no longer play in the grease and dig in the dirt and our minds will no longer be alert. Then those days will be a thing of the past, So enjoy it while we can, Before it becomes a thing of the past.

PS: SAY Hi MOM

Stop being so selfish, and let her drive the tractors a time or two---problem solved. Well except you will never get a chance to play. Well I guess you did say you had two tractors, perhaps a solution is at hand.

If you keep up the pace you may get a divorce, if you get her addicted ya got to shell out lots of money for more tractors for her. Both are very costly.

I've been divorced twice, I doubt that the farm is the real deep down issue. She probably wants to spend some time with you doing things she enjoys. That is a very tough call, and often once a guy catches on it is to late in the game.

We are all guilty of trying to make the dollar for our families, but often others can see issues before we do. Those tractors are great, but give it some serious thought about her feelings. We are all human, only the blessed get to play with tractors all the time.

I think you have several right answers here Larry. Can you combine your passion (old Tractors) with hers and maybe make a flower garden for her to enjoy with you? I've been married for 23 years and can tell you she needs time and attention just like your old tractor and your garden. Best regards, Gerard

Did the same thing for 35 years. Retired from my real job in Feb. Now I can't figure out how I worked 60 hrs a week at my real job, commuted 2hrs a day to work there, and ran my small farming operation. I too check on my 90 yr. old parents daily. I guess I was lucky to have a wife with the same work eithic. I am also now trying to make up for the time I did not spend with my four kids as they were growing up which is really my only regret. I probably sound like a recording of what we have all heard many a time. But to answer your question, I don't think your crazy.

I dont think my post came out right , my wife is great, and helps me with my mom, does all of our laundry and my moms besides being the best mom to our daughter any one could ever be and we do things together, her concern is that I shouldnt work so hard at the garden., but it is hard to explain the love of the land it is a feeling that cannot be described easily ,

AMEN TO THAT ,, a man has to find something in his life that RECUPPERATES him and makes sense ,gives peace and solitude and vitality , is productive , provides for his well being and others in a positive way without harm , and continues and nurtures a worthwhile legend that has worked well for his ancestors that he can TEACH and pass on to others in his lineage ,,, and most of all THIS BEING SUNDAY ,AND A DAY OF REST he must be True To GOD above who Loves US ALL inSpite of OUR FAULTS

No one thinks you are a little off. If you are so are the rest of us on here. I retired 7 years ago and still have a garden, but my LOL was raised on a farm and still puts our excess food from garden in cans & freezer to use in winter. She also has her flower gardens. Working in the garden will keep you healthy. If you just set down you are DONE.

Take her with you. Show her what you like about being there. My wife thought my job was easy. Until I took her on the road onetime. One trip through west Texas and she understood how hard it really was. Two days of seeing nothing and she stayed in the hotel while I worked. Told me she had never seen so much of nothing in her life.

A form of trying to reurn to childhood days when you played in the dirt. Now you have bigger tools to play in the dirt. RN

Larry, before I retired, I worked on highway construction. Fast noisy traffic whizzing by all day, equipment noise, dust, mud, concrete splatters, pile hammers, tires squalling, did I mention the traffic?

When I come home in the evening, this little farm is like a sanctuary. It's a quarter mile off of a secondary road, and two miles from the highway. I can't even HEAR a car from here!!!! You couldnt chase me away at gunpoint.

Sorry, I read to much in to your post. Jst about twenty munites before I read your post, the next door neighbor gave me the bad news about his wife of five years. It had a direct wording of your post almost within. There has been four others in our small town in the last month and a half. It seems to come in waves, batters the shores of everyone involved.

But anyway, giver her a unexpected hug anyway, They are worth their weight in gold when all is well.

I always say that its my stress relief/ therapy. Doesnt matter how many hours I worked that day or week can always go out to the garden/ fields and get a little quiet time. Gotta play with the tractors and the dirt, just a lot bigger of a snad box than I had when I was a kid.
