had a field fire up here yesterday, about 400 acres of corn stubble went up. burned a couple barns, house, some cars ect. about 12 fire departments responded, along with the local farmers with discs and chisel plows. had 40 mph winds yesterday too, that didnt help matters much. and...no kruser...i was no where near that one!!!

What city and state are you in? You are in Illinois, Yes?

One thing I worry about is having an outside fire. I always wait for a good rain and then burn the cardboard and junk mail.

We had a pretty bad fire at a fertilizer plant north of Peoria yesterday as well. Heard a skid steer started it but burnt a lot of high dollar equipment.
Yep, the wind was blowing hard which fueled the flames but spread to some corn stubble.
Not sure your W-9 and disk would have contained it!

PS: I WASN'T there!

(quoted from post at 18:00:39 04/30/10) Guru, I believe that recycling is a requirement of being on this forum.

I burn all of my paper garbage and cardboard. I usually burn it in the garage wood stove so I don't have to worry about starting a grass/forest fire.

The small farm town I live in has no paper recycling, so it's either burn it or put it in the landfill. I choose to burn everything. Don't have to worry about shredding that way.
