Biodegradeable lubricant?????

Just crossed my mind..... Is there any earth friendly lubes? Not necessarily oil/gearlube, but for when you need to squirt something or a chainsaw/motorcycle chain. I use cooking oil for unimportant stuff (shovels/tools and a BB gun I keep in the barn), but is there anything longer lasting?

That was the exact question that came up on a forum here. Irrigation pump. Curious to see what the answers are because if it works for a pump, it'll do anything I need.

Cat sold Veg oil based hydraulic fluid as an option for factory fill in rubber track tractors.

Most if not all the major oil suppliers sell a enviorment friendly hydraulic oil.

Yes, just buy some biodegradible bar-oil for chainsaws. It only has a shelf-life of 2 years, so you can't keep it around too long.

You can buy outboard motor lower unit lube that's biodegradable and not petroleum-based. Can get it a Wally World (and I'm sure any boat place) in a squirt tube for just a few bucks.

You wouldn't believe it........

Wife came home with a spray can of bio something lube........
Someone showed up at the company she works for trying to sell stuff and left a few cans as samples. Guess I've led a sheltered life.

Lot of logging equipment here with bio degradable lubes.

Don't just use veggy oil, it will harden and build up deposits. I've
seen people use it while alternating regular oil. Someguys use it in
chainsaws for cutting up moose.

Castrol makes some Castor oil based lubes, Jojoba oil is another bean oil used in some applications. RN

Olive oil works well for lots of stuff........Like, Hand moisturizer--really, Pipe threading oil, really. And I have used it on wood before for inside wood trim.

I aint kidding on this.

Don't laugh but use Goose Grease/Oil It will really penetrates and stay on any metal. Put a small amount on an old plow moldboard and net it set a few hours and look at the back side and it will be wet, It dose work. Or use food grade oils and greases, there industry standards in uses in food manufacturing. Bandit

We use vegetable hyd oil at work in dredges, and often in excavators and dozers that get used for cleaning out lagoons and retention ponds and such.. Seems like the drum says something about "food grade" or something on it.. Can't recall totally, as it has been a while since we had any at the shop at work. (don't clean many ponds and lagoons around here it seems)
