How do i find out what year backhoe I have for purchasing parts and repair purposes?
Serial # 2538 W
Engine tag # BC 1, and UNDER that is 4483. Tag appears smudghed as though something banged it.
Please help?
Thanks

First, you have to look at the relevant numbers. The engine tag is JUST for the engine. If it starts with "BC", then it is a BC-144 British gas engine, with a Lucas ignition and a British-Zenith downdraft VN or VNN carb (similar to Solex). British-Zenith has NO connection to USA Zenith.

Tractor serial number in on the side of the bellhosing. E.g., if it reads 3414 # 6917, then it is a 3414 tractor made in 1962.

If your tractor serial # is 2538 and has a gas engine, then it was made 1963. If it was diesel, it would be a 1961.

The backhoe is totally separate and has it's own model #, own serial #, and own parts book. It is likely to be a one of these IH hoes: 3120, 3121, 3130, 3131, 3140, or 3141 ALL used on 3414 tractors.

Thanks for the help. I know about the 2 different numbers for the tractor versus backhoe, but didn't know how to correlate the year. How do you know all this and keep it strait?
I didn't know if the 83 meant anything or not, or if someone was tinkering w/the #'s since it looks smudged. Just was wondering about year and confirmation on the engine number so I can start looking for tune-up parts.
